So apparently Hurney had a man crush on Kaaya

Dude they have not played one game yet.. If he keeps 2 kickers all year or more than a month.. Flame on.. But to bitch about this before anything plays out is foolish..

Nope.  Not trying to beat a dead horse but the gravity and urgency of the situation can't be overstated.  Having his salary on the week 1 books and the stink of his many miscues hanging over the team going into what could be an all time great year would be monumentally, all time dumb.

realistically the "3rd QB holding a clipboard all year vs joe webb playing on ST" point of contention would apply to literally any QB pickup on the planet. not many QBs do what Webb did, and that's part of what made him valuable.

Webb was a great fit for this roster but not irreplaceable. good on special teams but not a pro bowl demon or anything. his biggest value was being available, which is a good skill to have. as a QB he had some similar physical attributes to Cam, but he doesn't have the same kind of arm that Cam (or pre-2016 DA) has. definitely nice to have on the roster, but not so vital that a change in roster philosophy would include keeping him at all costs.

to me bringing in a developmental QB while keeping Gilbert on the practice squad is 1) smart to prepare for departure of Derek Anderson maybe at year's end, and 2) alllll about facilitating offensive execution in practice while giving Cam vet days as needed in case his arm gets sore. 2 young arms to develop in the system and throw routes in 7 on 7's in practice if Cam needs a couple days off for shoulder soreness.

frankly the Kaaya pickup is the move I like the best out of all the roster cutdown moves. my whole contention around cutdown day moves is on the logic, whatever that may be, behind dangling a 6th round draft pick on waivers, to try to scare up a trade with one of the kickers for something less valuable than a 6th round pick.

What urgency.  We are not getting anybody in the next month who is going to significantly change this team... That time has passed. Maybe later in the year but right now nothing is out there so let it play out before we panic..

after watching this i kind of do as well.

smart kid. smart QB. he's got the head for it for sure. i'd like to see how he plays, but right now i'd be trusting him more than DA....not that the bar is set particularly high there.

Gruden ripping on the Panthers offense for the possibility of injuring the QB.

It is better to have 52 men on the 53 man roster than having the cancer that is Gano hanging around.

It was time to bring in a young QB. Whether Kaaya will work out here remains to be seen but that room definitely needed an injection of youth, IMO. DA and Webb were getting too comfortable because there was nobody pushing them.

Yep!  Since this is Anderson's last year, we're going to need a new backup anyway, so this gives us the opportunity to get a good look at him before deciding on what we want to do about our #2 QB.  If he doesn't show enough, we can drop him and draft a developmental guy (depending on how well Gilbert continues to develops) along with bringing in a vet backup for the short term.

Kaaya sucked at Miami in college.. Hurney already f*ing this team over.. someone switched Jerry's Med's to bring this f* stick in just when we were getting over from Hutney f* ups!!

I've heard several people say this, and to be honest, I didn't like what I saw the couple of times I watched him.  But I guess the real question is does Kaaya have the basic skill set that can be developed into a solid backup (even if it was unrealized in college).  If so, how does he take to coaching, and can we develop those skills.

We know how it will turn out.

But right now we have a 3rd stringer who will hold a clipboard at best all year. Versus one who could contribute on Special Teams and play a decent NFL level QB.

Webb was a third string QB on his best day.

Really.. So if he is gone in the 1st month is it to late to save the patient??

Absolutely.  A waste of salary, time, energy, stress, confusion, indecision, and (lack of confidence) in those making the decision.

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
