Has Newton been David Carr'd?

I think that's a lot of it.  I think his head hasn't been right after the SB defeat.  He/they looked invincible.  To get beaten the way they did had to be devastating.

There's also the physical part that isn't his fault which only exacerbates the issue, but yeah I think he still has a long way to go before he's truly comfortable again.

I think he has the yips on occasion...but damn if he still doesn't hold onto the ball too long.  he could avoid half of these sacks/pressures by finding an open man quicker.  Some of/maybe all of that does have Shula to blame as well.

I'm not ready to go there yet because we see Cam still step and make throws when there's a clean pocket (which isn't often).

If anyone saw Goff play on Thursday you saw him go all happy feet the second there was the slightest hint of pressure, Cam isn't afraid to get hit.

But as I was saying yesterday, Cam is someone who needs to get into a rhythm during the game. Cam isn't able to get into any sort of rhythm when he's getting hit every second play.

I still believe if given even just below average protection Cam can still be that MVP QB. Cam's shoulder also needs to be healthy and with the hits he's taking on Sundays (thanks Kalil) it's obvious he won't be 100% until next season.

Basically, beaten into shellshock.

Yes or no, and why...

I think it’s more likely he’s just not a student of the game. Last off-season he was busy filming his tv show. This year he has 2 kids and surgery.

If feels like he’s used to relying on athleticism instead of on field knowledge.

I know more than one person has said he doesn't look like he's having fun anymore, except maybe right before games begin.

Some have also pointed to the fact that when he scored this week, he didn't give the football away. Granted, that could be situational, but I can't recall the last time that happened.

First time I've read something reasonable from you and I completely agree. Cam's shoulder needs to heal. He was struggling with the same slant throws that he would effortlessly throw at like 100 mph on a normal day, and secondly, Cam's deep ball has always been pretty good, but now he can't connect at all. You don't just lose your deepball over a off season.

Possibly, he sure doesn't look like an MVP out there.  He's taken a beating for his style of play.  He got by on talent and determination until now but it seems the beatings and life outside of football has taken away both.

He's trying too hard to make a play even though he's not at 100% and the staff doesn't seem to care.  The league has past judgement on him to allow the beatings to continue until his attitude improves, it's not fun for him anymore.

What you see is a man broken both physically and mentally.

    • Anybody got a clue what this is supposed to mean? 🤔
    • I figured as much. Hopefully he's just resting up and will be ready for round 3 (if we make it that far.)  Sucks to see. Hes been our best defender (besides Slavin) in the playoffs so far.
    • I've never bought into the idea. There's just too much at stake, even for front office people. Jobs are lost, trust is lessened, lives are altered, reputations are damaged and more. Throw in that the average front office person isn't as young as the average player. They may not have ten years ahead of them to salvage their careers. Any given year could be their last. The only person not guaranteed to suffer some direct form of consequence from losing is the owner, and even there you still have problems (fan reaction, team reputation, revenue, etc). You've also got massive egos in play on that front so it can get personal. Mind you, I do accept that there are "fire sales" in order to build for the future, but even those have consequences. They don't exactly guarantee success either. Poorly run teams often just wind up in the same circumstance a few years down the road. Sorry gus, but my tinfoil hat just hasn't fit me for quite a while.
