Has Worley Regressed?

I agree on that second call. That was such a nit pick of a PI.

He had a fistful of jersey as the WR was going up for the ball. That is PI every single time. It doesn't get much easier of a call than that and it was right in the refs face.

Regressed from where, exactly?

For some reason, Panther Nation somehow got the idea this guy was good when, in fact, he's probably a backup or nickel (at best) anywhere else in the league.

Lol you got me there, but come on... dude looks worse than last year. Maybe he is injured.

For anybody claiming Worley does well in coverage, watch him every snap next game. You'll always see him giving receivers space to catch because he's terrified of getting beat. Always 5-7 yards off the line, never plays the out breaking routes, seldom times the in breaking routes. He's below average, to be nice.

But also, we gave up the fourth most passing yards per game in 2016, and this year we’re giving up the fifth least. And we’ve faced Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Who average 260 & 283 passing yards a game for their entire careers.

If Worley can supposedly only be #2 CB backup quality, and we still hold teams under 200 net passing yards per game and less than 215 receiving yards per game, then I’m okay with his performances.

When you subtract yards after catch, we’re allowing teams to average just 5.3 yards per completed pass. Teams are getting 41% of their receiving yards against us after the catch, and considering the average pass length, that seems to be as much of a linebacker and nickel corner problem in tackling after the catch, as it is a Daryl Worley issue.

He’s fine. Let him be great.

He might be a know it all, but this guy makes sense. Welcome aboard!

I don't think he's regressed, but if you are game planning against our D, you're gonna throw his way a heck of a lot more than 24's.  I think he's much better than some we've had in the past. If he gives us that effort week in and week out, and he's the worst thing about our defense, we are gonna be just fine.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
