What Eagles Fans Are Saying...

I have infiltrated the official message board of the Philadelphia Eagles, which is nearly as busy as the huddle. My login name is one that was inspired by @Johnny Rockets and the day he saw a framed Jaworski jersery randomly in Birkdale. I bet he still remembers that moment.

Anywho, here are some things the Eagles fans are saying in their locked down forum.

On hitting Cam

Quote

Hit Cam early and often. He gets frustrated and it throws his game off.

Hit Cam. A lot. Look at what the Broncos did in the SB. They didn't let him run wild all over them and knocked him down every chance they got. He got frustrated and started flailing around and crying like a child.

Can't say I argue with this, as long as the hits are legal and not headhunting or after the whistle. If Cam's jersey can stay clean on Thursday like it did in Detroit, I like the Panthers chances a whole lot.

On stopping the Panthers

Quote

On defense it'll all be about discipline.  Newton can extend plays and will either run for first downs, or has one of the strongest arms and limitless range down field.  Our d-line needs to be sure not to over-pursue Cam, and our secondary needs to stick with their guys all the way through the play.  Easier said than done of course.

Contain Cam, cover in the secondary. Got it. Man, not having Greg Olsen is really hindering the opposing fans ability to strategerize.

On the Panthers receivers

Quote

I actually like our chances quite a bit. Our run defense is strong, I'm not overly worried about Stewart/McCaffery. They have pretty good WRs, but they're big physical receivers and not so much speed guys. I think this plays into the strength of the Eagles CBs.

Agree here. Eagles do pretty well against the larger possession receivers. Unfortunately, that is all the Panthers have.

On the Panthers potent offense

Quote

They've scored on 12 of their last 18 drives the last two games. I did not include the drives where they ran out the clock. That's hard to hang with.

I didn't know that. Cool stat. Like I said, Shula is a mastermind.

Overall, Eagles fans seem pretty realistic about this game. Most score predictions I have seen have the Eagles winning by one score.

    • Incorrect, I have watched us consistently over quite a number of years. When I say Cam relied on athleticism, I simply mean his dual threat style and athleticism overshadowed the deficiencies in the passing game (his own or those created by the system).  Now I wouldn’t disagree that our OCs over that time were not amazing and arguably held him back, but correct me if I’m wrong, Cam had a habit of locking onto his receivers and overthrowing them. Gettleman even drafted two big receivers - Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess - to give Cam receivers with a big catch radius.  Again, correct me if I’m wrong, but Cam had some mechanical issues. For example, the reliance on arm strength over touch and his footwork often led to him throwing off the back foot. There were many debates on these boards about his mechanics, with far more knowledgeable posters than I braking down what he needed to improve on. End of the day, I was as big a Cam fan as the next person, but he did have his shortcomings as a passer. Had he played under someone like Sean McVay or a similar offensive guru, with a high quality QB coach, then I’m sure they would have ironed out the kinks and he would have been far more dangerous and successful than he was. And that’s a scary thought of what he could have been under the likes of a McVay!
    • It's true that we are not scoring at a much higher clip than the Saints. They're averaging ~18.4 with Shough and in that same span we're averaging ~19, so pretty close, despite Bryce having better TD numbers over that period. Both our teams are a far, far cry from the NFL average of 23.3...
    • I like when this big kat is going crazy panther fan and not the pat jersey betting against persona.
