What to do about this terrible running game...

It amazes me how players can switch teams and bloom, Peterson to the Saints he sucks, Peterson to the Cardinals wow, yet the Saints still produce over 100 yards with Ingram. I would love to see our line and rbs with a new OC

Systems make a huge difference. Here's the stupidity of Rivera, Shula, and our run game. Rivera wants to run the ball, Shula has done what Rivera has wanted since he has been here. How did he do that? By using Cam Newton as a battering ram. This year they want to protect Cam but instead of changing the system Shula runs the same exact system. I will let you figure out why it's not working.

Cam would set the league on fire out of play action.

I have wet dreams thinking about Cam taking the snap from center, faking a hand-off and bootlegging around to the right... he's got an option deep, a guy crossing over the middle and CMC as an outlet... he has all day to read the field for holes... oh and if everyone is covered, he takes off untouched for an 8 yard gain.

Oh well... sweeps to stewart out of shotgun will have to do.

Even in 2015, our run scheme sucked and we depended too much on Cam.  Stewart didn't even reach 1,000 yards that year.  But Thursday night was a new low and something has to change. They are running a zone scheme that has become easy to shut down.  We need to go back to more power running. Hopefully if we get Kalil back at center it may stabilize the o line.

Exactly , we need to variation on the same downs! I wish Cam would audible more and stop going with the script, he is  a Veteran now & should be able to exploit defensive scheme  after seeing the play few times.

Honestly, Stewart always worked better as the second half of a running back tandem. His skill set works best to come in and physically punish a defense after they've had to chase around a shiftier back (like Williams was or CMC could be). Also, shotgun handoffs and sweeps rob him of the ability to get a head of steam up running down hill.

That being said, I think we've spent so much energy of developing pass blocking for our O-line after last year's pinball-fest for Cam, that they just don't have that ooomph they need to exert their will in the running game.

And let's use that fullback.

    • Through 2 games cltfc has 12 shot attempts. Opponents 23 shots on target. Attack sucks, Defense definitely sucks. Kahlina is the only reason they haven't given up 14 goals in two games.
    • I met a few times--never liked him. I figured he might have had a bad day--but then realized that he must have a lot of bad days. Once he raised his voice at my son because my son did not understand a question when SS was signing his jersey.  I wanted the jersey to represent his encounter with a Panther great, not some small man with a bad attitude.  I told me son, "Forget it.  He was asking you what your name is (My son was about 7 and told me that he thought Smitty was going to write (my son's) name on the jersey.  He said "Dad, I thought he was supposed to write HIS name on the jersey, not mine."  I said, "He was personalizing it, writing it to you--like a birthday card."  He is now grown, and he has a steve smith Jersey that is framed and matted.  He keeps it is his closet.  I asked him, "Why not have that out on your wall?"  He said, "All I remember is an A-hole scribbled on my shirt.  I don't remember a legend or hero.  But he had a Jake Delhomme Jersey on his wall.  "Jake was great.  I will always remember that."  (Jake stayed and talked to us for about 5 minutes or more--GREAT guy.)
    • Is it possible for someone to regress in maturity as they age or has Steve really just been a jerk his entire life?
