What did the kicker situation prevent us from doing exactly?

hint: nothing

Nothing in terms of current personnel, but I'm curious to know if the money we could have saved would have helped us sign Star or Norwell long-term. That's my only beef with the kicker situation.

But you don't keep a kicker you don't think isn't as good just to save money, right? You keep the better player.

Just a friendly reminder how horrible Gilbert was in preseason.

I mean, really bad.

Were you watching the same person as me? He was very sharp and had better success in the preseason than DA and about the same or more than Webb. He was far from "horrible" and showed lots of potential.

Cam to Cleveland for:

Jabril Peppers, David Njoku, Carl Nassib, Cleveland and Houston 1st round 2018 picks, Philly 2nd round 2018 pick, Carolina 4th round 2018 pick back....

Who says No? Bring Cam to Cleveland to compete for championships like LBJ. Bring another J Peppers to Carolina. Cleveland immediately solves the PR issue of forever rebuilding with guys who don't pan out. Carolina starts fresh with a buttload of picks to build youth and depth, while grabbing a franchise playmaker and Safety, a 10 year DE, an Olsen replacement....

Even if they threw in Garrett, I'd be hesitant.

everyone you moron. you don't just trade a franchise qb away. you want to end up like the browns, rebuilding for 20 years?

Depends on who is evaluating the player I guess. I think most of us saw both kickers as even in terms of talent.

Butker has performed just as well as Gano has this season. Hindsight is 20/20, but knowing Butker can get the job done, I would have saved the money.

Strongly disagree. Those of us that were at all the training camp practices didn't even see it as a competition until Gano missed that second kick in the preseason game. It wasn't even close before that.

Edit: didn't mean for that to come off like an a-hole.

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
