NE would never waste a high pick on a RB

And when was the last time a NE rb was a “star”.

Cory Dillon was a star at one time in the NFL with the Bengals, but he was on the backside of his career when he had a stellar 2004 season.  They repeated as champions. I think he had a 1,600 yd season that year. He replaced Antwan Smith who had 1,000 years seasons when they won the Super Bowl in 2001 and 2003. LeGarrett Blount had a 1,000 yd season last year when they beat Atlanta. I think BenJarvis Green-Ellis had a 1,000 yd season during one the seasons that they lost the Super Bowl to the Giants.

The Pats have never had a marque back (none of those guys mentioned above is going to the Hall of Fame), but they've usually had a back over 1,000 yds (or close to it) when they made it to/won the SuperBowl.

If CMac was in NE I could see him rushing for 800-1000 yds and adding another 600-700 via receptions. I think Josh McDaniel would use him more effectively and I think he would run better behind their OL.

I have to agree with about them drafting him at #8. I could only see that happening if they literally had no weak spots on the team (except at RB) and could use the choice as a luxury pick because they were solid everywhere else. It would be a situation like the 1977 Dallas team that moved up to get Tony Dorset at #2 because all they were missing heading into the season was a breakaway threat at running back.

You guys ragging on CMC's size need to do some fact checking and come up with a different argument because the problem lies elsewhere (e.g., Shula, et al).  Watching the Pats/Falcons tonight, here are some comparisons: Same size as Freeman. Compared to receivers: Amendola, Cooks, Edleman, and for old times sake, Welker...CMC. Guess who is the biggest guy, albeit by a hair? Just for fun, how about Sproles (Al just mentioned New Orleans).

CMC has superglue on his hands, runs better routes than damn near anyone in the NFL, and always seems to be open. Let me put it this way: If CMC was coached by BB, ran plays designed/called by McD, and got the ball from Brady, he'd be in the top five in the entire league by now. Argue with that.

All those guys you just named are real RB with power, that have had success with other teams. Mccaffrey is a scat back. I would bet my entire life savings w Mccaffrey wouldn’t come close to those numbers in NE, he barely more talented than Woodhead, and Woodhead never sniffed those numbers.

btw none of them were stars

I thought Kalil was a good move at the time...but your analysis is spot on...looking for a diamond in the rough has merely left us in the rough...

I honestly could not understand how anyone could think that was a good move at the time. The dude literally has had one season where he wasn't hot garbage....his fuging rookie season! Unsurprisingly, he is still hot garbage!

Gettleman >>> Norwell, Turner, Moton

We needed guys like CMC / Samuel because this offense had plenty of large plodding players.

The issue is 1) we don't use Curtis, & 2) we treat CMC like Stewart 2.0 in the run game.

Shula, and Riverball need to go, we are a team that needs to play with a lead, at the very least go up tempo early to get up on teams before you start trying to eat the clock. We all know Cam is best in up tempo, don't let the defense sub, force them to choose base or nickle by using CMC in and out of the back-field inside that tempo.

This has been a regressive thinking staff for a while. You need a forward thinking Coach / staff when you have a generational talent at QB, we have been wasting Cam's potential, and Shula is living off of 2015.

You're wrong about Corey Dillon. He was one of the top backs in the NFL for years. He had the misfortune of spending most of his career with the Bungles (I mean Bengals) so he's been pretty much forgotten. If he's played for NE his entire career (or another contender) he's be a HoF candidate. Check out his stat line: http://www.nfl.com/player/coreydillon/2500396/profile

Dillon actually finished his career with more TD's, rushing yards, and 1,000 yard seasons than OJ Simpson. He's better than any back we've ever had in Carolina. He's got more yards than several RB's in the Hall of Fame.

One guy 13 years ago who plays nothing like Mccaffrey, so my point still stands

So did I imagine Laurence Maroney being drafted in the first round by New England? That was the same year they were paying Corey Dillion $6,000,000.

Hell they double dipped on RBs in 2011 - 2nd and 3rd round.
