Only one pick from the 2014 draft is still on the team

1st - Kelvin Benjamin (traded)
2nd - Kony Ealy (cut)
3rd - Trai Turner (Pro Bowler)
4th - Tre Boston (cut)
5th - Bené Benwikere (cut)
6th - Tyler Gaffney (never played a down)

One Pro-Bowler, one pretty good wideout, three bit players (at best) and one player who never played a down. Not a great draft.

You can't fault DG for the next terrible GM trading away a great player. Ealy wasn't cut either but was ultimately a risk reward pick that didn't work out and you can blame DG for that. Boston and Benwikere contributed to success for us, that's more than can be said for the large majority of 4th and 5th round picks. And who's to say Bene wouldn't still be here and/or contributing in the league if he didn't have that brutal broken leg? Boston ain't so bad in LA either.

KB wasn't great and he wasn't getting a second contract here anyway.

Yea, Carolina hasn’t had a great GM ever. I don’t trust JR to hire us one this offseason, either. Gettleman was a conservative gm, an a**hole who’s drafts look pretty bad as each day passes. He was just good at managing the cap of the players here, and picking up a low risk player every once in awhile. With him, around here, the mantra was always, “we’re building for the future” “who would you rather have, ‘such and such free agent or “name in current panther who’s due a contract”. That was repeated every year, while we never saw any sustained success.

Hurneys just trash, and has no business being a GM.

All starts with the top, though.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we do still have at least one Hurney apologist on board.

This is the type of sh*t i’m talking about when I say the Huddle has a stance on Gettleman. Anything short of literally kissing his ass is Hurney apologism, apparently.

Lest we not forget our current acting GMs great ones

2011

1st: Cam- obvious good but hard to choke the #1 pick away from a class that has a potential 7 HOF draftes in the top 11 that year

2nd (33rd pick): traded away the year before for Armanti

3rd: Terrell McClain- lasted 1 season on the team

3rd (#2): Fua- lasted 2 years on the team

4th: Bradon Hogan- lasted 1 year on team

5th: Kealoha Pilares- lasted 2 seasons

6th: Lawerence Wilson-practice squad rookie season, realeased halfway through the season

6th (#2): Zachary Williams- 1 season then to arena league

7th: Lee Ziemba- 1 season

Blah blah I like my FUPA man he is always right but that coach Rivera who led us to the SB appearance an fielding top 10 Defense  is is poo  even though  FUPA man limited the offense with minimum investment

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
