Mike Shula rumored to be interested in Ole Miss head coach job

There's this weird thing in the SEC where you only want coaches who have coached in the SEC.

Like it makes absolutely no sense at all but it's why retreads like Houston Nutt and Bobby Petrino will always get jobs again. Petrino probably ends up back at arkansa; louisville has already imploded, right on schedule. Florida will probably hire houston nutt after they whiff on everyone else. Lane fuging Kiffin is rumored to be returning to Tennessee which might just end the world as we know it.

As first reported by RebelGrove.com following the Egg Bowl Thursday night, Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula has interest in Ole Miss, a report we can confirm through conversations with sources in coaching, agent and media circles this week. However, it’s unclear if that interest is reciprocated. Shula spent four seasons as the head coach of Alabama from 2003-2006, where he compiled a 26-23 record and twice finished third in the SEC West.”

Take this for what you will

Let's have a beer on this.

The Big Ten has Ohio State, Michigan, and maybe Michigan State, and Wisconsin.

I would add PSU to that mix as well.

First. Yes, the SEC is the cat's meow of College Football. Who do you have as the top Conference? ACC? lol

The SEC has Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida, and even Tenn. The ACC has Miami....maybe Clemson, and that's about it. The Big Ten has Ohio State, Michigan, and maybe Michigan State, and Wisconsin. So yeah, the SEC is the premier league in College Football.

Second. If you can succeed at Ole Miss. You can write your ticket. Precisely because that Conference is such a bear. If you can elevate that Program? Folks will defiantly notice you.

Third. Regardless, Ole Miss is a stepping stone school. If they do somehow get a quality coach, that can elevate that program. The chances are, that coach will eventually leave for greener pastures.

Lastly. Mediocre program? Considering there are only a dozen or so Top Tier Programs. You can say that about almost every College Program.

In conclusion; Ole Miss views themselves as a Storied Program. And they want to get back to where they once were. IMO, the only way they can do that, and have sustained success. Is to find an Alum that can get them where they want to go. Someone who will still stay, even after they have attained success.

Do you even follow college football or just talk your ass about it?

Well, look at you coming with guns ablazing. Got anything to back that up? Or are you just going to throw a volley out there and back away?

Prove me wrong. Or put the six shooter away.

Florida state has obviously had a bad year but come on.

I plumb forgot about them. They had a couple good years somewhere in the recent past. IMO though, they are basically just name recognition any more. But that may be because I just don't like em'.

Poo on them. Then laugh when they slip and fall. lol

Calm down there Alice. I was just asking a question. But thanks for answering my question!

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
