We've lost to 3 teams

Aints, Bears and Eagles. Eagles are a top team and we nearly beat them. Bears was a brutal game where we did everything we could to beat ourselves. And the Aints twice obviously sucks but they're good this year. Beat the Vikings next week and we're in solid shape. Quit the panicking and get ready for playoff football again after a year off. Also look at the other teams competing for NFC playoff spots and look at their recent playoff experience compared to ours. That will be a big factor in the playoffs, in our favor. Pick your chins up and don't quit on this team. Rivera sucks in a lot of ways but you can be damn sure the team won't be quitting down the stretch here. Let's move onto the Vikings where we'll like have Greg and maybe Ryan back. Two huge huge additions to the offense for the stretch run if we can get them both back and they stay healthy. We can win it all this year people, can't give up hope.

Well in all honesty while some argue playoff stretch is tough, our success after a bye minus 2015 is always bad so I think this could be ideal.

What sucks is we have a road game in week 17.  4 straight road games will be tough-I always think back to 2005 and how gassed we were in Seattle for the NFCCG in that scenario.  Doable, but tough as hell.  But it is what it is.

I wouldn’t totally discount a home game though even if it looks unlikely.  It’s not impossible as the 5 seed to host the NCCCG and with some help from our friends in the ATL, we could even still win the South.

I never quit on the team even when we have a losing record so i won't now. I want wins every single time we step out on the field/step into the stands. Like Sam Mills always said just Keep Pounding no matter how grim or bleak a situation may look. I don't give up on the team until the last second ticks off the clock of the last game of the season. The underdog always has a chance and in the NFL that is a proven fact. The Giants have shown that off before back in the 2007 season (I believe) by winning all the road games, becoming NFC champions, and then taking down the undefeated Patriots.

That being said I just hope that should we make it to the playoffs and make an early exit we won't be afraid to pull the trigger on some firings. With a new GM (I know long shot with how JR has treated Hurney so far and the odds are about keeping his butt around) I'd like to give them a shot to choose their coaches this time and not have somebody forced on them. Other teams have done it before (Denver firing John Fox for example) and went on to win (although the same example stinks this year). It could be the spark and change we need to succeed in the long run.

Well if we're trying to play the optimist in this thread, I'll add to it.

8-4. We can finish between 10-6 and 12-4. Anything in there is not a BAD year. 10 wins SHOULD get us the wildcard,11 all but guarantees it depending on how other teams do. 12 is a sure bet, IMO. Basically, these next 2 weeks determine our fate. If we lose both, we need some luck. If we split and win the last two, we should be ok. So, win out and avoid any possibility of disappointment. It's not impossible, but beating the Vikings is something we SHOULD be able to do if we show up for it. If we come out like we did today, we're going to get waxed.

No way we finish at .500 though, regardless. So, rejoice! We have successfully guaranteed Rivera's and Shula's job for yet another season!

So the question is, do we still go after the division and root for Atlanta on Thursday? Or do we go for the wild card?

That's tough. I hate Atlanta and don't want them making the playoffs while the Aints making it is inevitable now. I think for this game I don't really care, but the 2nd game will depend on the circumstances at that time. We really just need to take care of our own business and win out.

The Saints were the scariest team for us to play for me coming into this season. If we can avoid them in the playoffs, I think we can go all the way. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Vikings end up a rather easy W.

The way the Panthers have played they can lose to any NFC team in the playoffs, people keep saying how good the Saints are but the real problem is the Panthers aren't at full strength and they play poorly against any team. How the hell did they only score 3 points against the Chicago Bears?!?

Well said.  But gun to head I’m “pulling” for the Falcons.  Them sweeping the Saints or even the Saints losing at home to the Jets or at Tampa aren’t inconceivable.  This same team was dead to rights against the Redskins.  I’m not giving up on the division.
