He’s our true #2. Doesn’t mean we have an up to par wideout unit.

I agree he should be our #2 WR over Shepard. Im just saying he is not a true #2 WR. We have a weak WR core, so he is forced to be #2 because we don't have much to challenge him.

More time hopefully equals more chemistry with Cam. We know he has speed and his hands looked great today so maybe he can develop into what we need him to be.

Say what you will about the others but Funch has been balling out and I’ll eat my crow on that one.

We still dont have a #2 WR until we get a reliable deep threat , or get someone thats a great route runner with excellent hands.

That being said, all our WRs had at least decent games today. Didnt see as many drops as i did in previous games and Bersin had a monster catch.

My dawg

Just give him time. He’s always had the ability and he’s a natural hands catcher which is a HUGE plus with this group.

Byrd was really only a one route guy coming from college but he’s a smooth athlete. He’s added weight and has made huge progress in his route tree ability.

In a perfect world Byrd would be the perfect number 3 but instead he’ll need to step up and be a 2. I really hope we target a Davante Adams or Paul Richardson (Calvin Ridley would be my ideal but doubt he’s there when we pick) this offseason so it would allow Byrd to the slot.

I found it interesting they had Byrd running mostly shorter routes today. Seems to me that he would be a better deep threat target than Clay who i saw downfield a couple times.

I've been in the "umm, Byrd really hasn't done anything yet" camp since everyone started shouting his praises last year.

Today, I think my opinion changed quite a bit. I think he found the competitive spirit he's going to need to make it as a small, speedy receiver. He certainly outplayed the other receivers that weren't named Funchess on our team. Heck, start him as WR2 next week and turn him loose. If he can do as much or more, then yahoo!!!

He sure outperformed Clay, and let's just let Shepard stay on the bench. Byrd looks like he's seen there's a big opening in the roster for a guy who can try hard.

    • The team wore down and shots stopped falling.  Ball, Miller and Kon have to play well.  At least 2 of the 3.  2/16…0/6. That ain’t gonna cut it.     If Bridges and White are the only ones hitting from 3, it’s not gonna go well.  The 3’s make Moose and Kalk work.  No 3’s it gets too crowded for them with all the bodies crashing the boards.    (Kalk needs to add strength, something awful tho.)
    • Was at the game and NYCFC honestly outplayed CLT the whole way.  Khalina and Zaha carried the team.  Zaha's wife on IG making it sound like he's gone come July. They're going to have to pay him or find a big time replacement because the team looks like pretty lost without him.
    • No one's saying LaMelo has no blame we're responding to you acting like he's the reason they lost. The scapegoating and blaming the teams woes on his personality is where it's like Cam Newton all over again. It was a failure on multiple fronts and primarily Lee's. Dude said ON AIR pregame that they had to protect the paint and if that was his gameplan going in he couldn't have botched it more. As the commentators said Ball's a rhythm guy and Orlando was preventing him for getting any kind of flow going. I'm a normie watching on TV and said they needed to bait them into fouling to combat that. They didn't even try until the 2nd half when it was too late. I think it's fair to expect the star to overcome whatever but LaMelo was not the problem in that game and he's not what is holding the team back. He's the only reason they're flirting with being a great team. I kinda put the center play on Lee too. Moose is great until he's up against a big who can body him. We've always known that and that's what Kalkbrenner is for. I don't know if it would have changed much but Kalkbrenner should have had more minutes than him.  And moving forward with the center position, I just think it's the time to trade Diabate while his stock's high and that's not an indictment of his game. He's like an evolved combination of Biyombo and PJ. He's a great rim protector and the strength issue is just what you're going to have to deal with if you want that. But Kalkbrenner is perfectly capable of protecting the rim and we gotta get away from the undersized centers or it'll always be a problem for us.
