I Think We Can All Agree That Dave Gettleman Was Fired For Standing Up To JR

Nah, he got canned because he wasn't on board with JR's vision of running the team like a mom and pop business instead of one concerned with winning.  That's why he brought "temp" Hurney back to hand out long term contracts like candy so he can continue to invite "family" like TD and Olsen over for dinner!

Let's please slow down with the hero worship.  He may very well have been fired for standing up to JR, but it could just have very well been due to not making the personnel deicisions that JR wanted more than anything else.  We don't know who knew about the racial slur outside of JR and the scout.  We also don't know what the specific racial slur was (not that it would make it any less bad, bc it's horrible regardless).

JR clearly has been living a double life, with the majority of it being as a racist, sexist, bigoted good ol' boy.  We know that to be true.  We also know it's time for a new owner.  But, a lot of OP is speculation and in this time and place, I think the dilineation between facts and everything else needs to be crystal clear before we grab something and run with it.

it's the timing of the firing that lends to it being more of a non-work performance based decision.

there was no speculation about the firing before it happened and no one has said a word about it after the firing.

I think the Gettleman firing is rooted mainly in more of the same egomaniac fueled meddling JR has been known for over the years that has resulted in him alienating even his own family. He's simply not a good human being, regardless of how many southerners here have placed him in high regard over the years because of wealth and power.

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
