Could Raleigh eventually host a Franchise?

I remember a few years ago when there was talk of moving the Minnesota Twins to the Triad.  It was never seriously considered, and the area doesn't have the necessary population to support a MLB team, but it was interesting to talk about anyway.

Yea, I remember Kernersville was to be where the stadium would be. Would’ve been neat to have a team in the area, as we were living in Kernersville at the time.

The Dash do decent numbers, but I don’t think the area could support a pro team.

This area doesn't give two shiits about hockey.  Replace it with an NFL team and it sells out every week.  Guaranteed.

Yeah,  I always wondered why some people thought that a hockey team would be taken seriously in North Carolina. Using the Hurricanes as an example as to why the Triangle won't support an NFL franchise is ludicrous.

Having lived in both cities for over 10 years each.

Raleigh cannot support an NFL team. Individuals in The Triangle are fickle when it comes to athletics, if the team is not performing well the fans don't show. Whether it's the Hurricanes, Wolfpack basketball, or Tar Heel and Duke football; when the teams are playing poorly the fans don't come out. When you take into account how small Raleigh is, there is not a chance in hell The Triangle couple support an NFL team.

I bet someone who invests 2.5 billion dollars in an NFL team wouldn’t think it’s “ludicrous” to take a peak at the Hurricanes attendance before seriously considering Raleigh

Bring a team to Greensboro or Winston! Sorry Panthers, id switch my loyalties with the quickness if that ever happened.

It won’t, but it’s cool to think about it.

I might eventually switch,  maybe,  but it would likely be a long process. There's 20+  years of history here.

Apples to oranges.  The State and Carolina games are a much better measure.

I’m gone as soon as it’s announced lol. I would then hope Rivera would pull an Al Pacino on Any Given Sunday and announce he and Cam are coming over with the new team.

Panthers could keep Shula. Y’all could keep him lol.

All this talk of new ownership has got me thinking. Being from the Triangle, seeing how much growth we have every year along with the fact we already have an NHL team, anyone else think this could be possible in the next several years.

PS- Maybe even the Panthers?

Probably not in our generation. Who knows in 40 years.

Easily. I'm an NC native who grew up about an hour outside of Charlotte and now live in Raleigh. Charlotte is bigger, but Raleigh is a superior sports area. If you placed a stadium in the RTP area b/n Durham/Chapel Hill/Raleigh, it would generate a huge interest and would easily have the fan support.

    • All this hysteria over arthritis.  That might be the most huddle thing ever.
    • Man, it's almost like there is some major systemic problems in our communities making crime, violence and drugs a viable alternative to whatever else. I've lived in Charlotte since 1985.  I've been going downtown pretty readily for the past 20 years.  I will agree, there is a lot more to worry about.  It has gotten worse as the services and social safety has been cut and undermined. There is also a major problem in our homes and families.  Kids don't just decide to jump into gangs and drugs.  They do that when there are no opportunities or hope.  That's not a political statement, but it's straight from the Framework for Understanding Poverty by Ruby Payne.
    • Roll it over and continue to build smart. If we're lucky, we're competing for a playoff spot this year. Don't spend on leftovers just to "hope" you get lucky.  Keep being smart, acquire assets, let the young guys play, and hope we're on the "in the hunt" graphic late into this season...that's the real goal.  If all goes well, (and Bryce shows he's legit), you can be more all-in next year. Seems like that's been the plan, which he finally have, and we're sticking to it.
