A very real scenario for next year

I agree with Zod that there probably won't be a whole lot of changes, and possibly none at all, to our offensive staff.

Our defensive staff, on the other hand...

Steve Wilks is not the only guy that might be looking at an opportunity next year. With a lot of head coaching changes expected, there will be a lot of defensive coordinator openings too. Guys like Eric Washington and Al Holcomb could become quite popular.

So yes, the very real possibility exists that we could go into next season with our offensive staff intact, but our defensive staff having gone through major changes.

With this much turnover around the league the new owners may find themselves thinking twice about cleaning house next year.  Pickings will be very slim.

Wilks is overrated as an DC IMHO - losing him wouldn't be catastrophic. His only tactic is to blitz, even though his secondary isn't that good. Would hate to lose Washington and Holcomb.

I am really liking these media types hyping up Shula talking about he may get a HC job ... I hope someone bites and hires him. 

We won't get rid of him, he's attached at the hip with Rivera. They are going down together. Only scenario I see Shula getting canned is if Ron gets canned. But I'm not as down on Rivera as some people here.

Turnover on the defensive side of the ball doesn’t really concern me as long as Rivera is our head coach. We’ve invested enough draft capital and have some outstanding future pieces on that side of the ball (Luke, Mario, and KK) to consistently field a top third defense.

Well the smart thing to do is as soon as Wilks is hired away that Hurney promotes from within right away before Wilks or anyone else can scoop them up.

With Rivera, there will be enough defensive continuity that I wouldn't worry tooo much.  Moreso, we need a lot of personnel.  Hurney will have an opportunity to earn his spot this offseason because we need a DE, Safety, Corner, Tackle, and Receiver.

Shula back at OC is basically saying we are okay on offense. Another wasted season if it happens.

They can say no to interview requests (other than head coaching opportunities) but it doesn't happen often.
