A very real scenario for next year

I agree with Zod that there probably won't be a whole lot of changes, and possibly none at all, to our offensive staff.

Our defensive staff, on the other hand...

Steve Wilks is not the only guy that might be looking at an opportunity next year. With a lot of head coaching changes expected, there will be a lot of defensive coordinator openings too. Guys like Eric Washington and Al Holcomb could become quite popular.

So yes, the very real possibility exists that we could go into next season with our offensive staff intact, but our defensive staff having gone through major changes.

Happy New Year, everybody.

I am really liking these media types hyping up Shula talking about he may get a HC job ... I hope someone bites and hires him.

We won't get rid of him, he's attached at the hip with Rivera. They are going down together. Only scenario I see Shula getting canned is if Ron gets canned. But I'm not as down on Rivera as some people here.

Turnover on the defensive side of the ball doesn’t really concern me as long as Rivera is our head coach. We’ve invested enough draft capital and have some outstanding future pieces on that side of the ball (Luke, Mario, and KK) to consistently field a top third defense.

Well the smart thing to do is as soon as Wilks is hired away that Hurney promotes from within right away before Wilks or anyone else can scoop them up.

They can say no to interview requests (other than head coaching opportunities) but it doesn't happen often.

    • I agree but he honestly has gotten better about this. Used to be he’d do it like 4-5 times a game, now it’s like 2-3. Overall I’m incredibly happy with his game, his D has been solid and when he is playing his role he’s a solid scorer and one of the few guys who can consistently finish at the rim and provide that threat. Plus he’s electric and LaMelo loves him. Going into the season I was sure he would just be a stop gap here but now I’m reconsidering and could see him continue to be a “core” piece here. Obviously not on the level of the other starters but he is an important cog for this team. We felt his missed presence during his and Moose’s suspensions.
    • Philly will be a bigger challenge than the Knicks were IMO. George and Embiid are back, not sure about Maxey but Embiid alone is a nightmare matchup for us and Moose. We’ve never really done well against him. Celtics added Tatum but honestly not sure they’re all that much better with him right now than they were when we whooped them a few weeks ago. We should be able to at the very least split these 2, hopefully take both.
