Oh, if evolution were but a simple, straight and unbothered line --- amoebae to homo extremis in 30 generations and lasers by day 5.

Evolution has never been about the leaps and bounds but by the dogged trial and error mixed with an unwillingness to give up on tomorrow.

We've had a lot of growing pains (and a lot of serious injuries to boot) but somehow the team put together 11 winning performances, some against some very strong play-off teams. We may fall flat at the start of the post season, we may stall out somewhere along the way, or we might just hoist a trophy in our battered, weary hands at the end of all this.

I've got faith in them, I still believe, how about you?

And if we look bad again next season?

How long are we supposed to give them to "evolve"?

Do we want to be like the Bengals?

Wow. The numbers are just salt in the wound.

We are in dire need an overhaul on the offensive side of the ball.

Staff, players, etc.

Mike Shula will still be offensive coordinator next year.

Why?

Because Ron Rivera will still be head coach next year.

Don't be so sure. Everyone is under the assumption the status quo will be kept. Guess what new owners make decisions different than old ones. There is no guarantee this team will be anywhere near what it is now.

If you want to hire a new coach, you need to get it done before free agency starts.  That's in March.

Hire a new GM?  Same thing, and the draft is in April.

New ownership isn't likely to be in place before training camp starts, much less the offseason stuff.

Like it or not, we have at least one more year of Ron Rivera coaching a roster that was put together by Marty Hurney.

Nothing's changing till after next season.

In all fairness to Shula, this offense did show life with Samuel and CMC more involved. While you can question Samuel’s hands, his route running and ability to gain separation is something this offense hasn’t seen in a long time. Without him - or anyone that can separate for that matter - Shula can only do so much, and that goes for Cam too.

He has no one to scheme or work with now, but even then he has to adapt and actually be more creative than he has been thus far.

4 teams finished the season with a better record than the panthers. If new ownership came in tomorrow they wouldn't be getting rid of Rivera and company.  There's this myth going around that it's hard to win in the NFL and a lot of people get sucked into believing it.

it's more like the de-evolution of the Huddle.

Is it possible that losing when we had a chance to lock up a division title has unnerved everyone?

I really believe coaches and players are thinking they have one game left and they might as well leave all out there this sunday...it may not be a win but it won't be like last week...

Hurney is interim. With a new owner he could get a permanent one and yes hire him late into the off-season. There's no telling how a successful franchise is sold speed wise. It's almost always struggling ones. This is uncharted waters so every time table is out of the window. Make no mistake there is a very real possibility of changes happening way sooner than usual. Could not be as well but again this is not the norm. We have no president, interim GM, and not much front office staff. It would be easy for a new owner to change things and record alone wouldn't prevent that. Remember JR is patient the new owner might not be

I don't understand why everyone thinks evolution of an offense takes time.  If you bring in a new Head Coach/ Offensive Coordinator, usually everyone is on the same page by mid season.  The problem isn't the offense evolving, it's the coaching evolving that is a problem.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
