The Cam Conundrum

It’s an interesting and fair debate. I often wonder if the Panthers would be better off with a traditional QB that was an accurate passer that didn’t turn the ball over. With our defense, the offense doesn’t have to do much.

Cam draws unfair criticism and a lot of it is due to incredibly high expectations. Cam could be the Lebron of the NFL but doesn’t appear to work that hard at it and relies on his god given physical attributes. If Cam had Manning’s work ethic he would be one of the best to ever play the game.

I find myself more and more frustrated with his lack of accuracy and antics on and off the field. The fact that Cam still has poor footwork and mechanics that haven’t improved speaks volumes to his off season work ethic in my opinion

Antics shouldn't bother you, people are who they are. He's from a younger generation that's loud, flashy and in your face. People gotta understand the qb Era of the past is kinda over.

But no, if you gave a statue of a qb these same weapons we'd be a HORRIBLE team. The only thing the offense really has going for it is Cams ability to run and break a big play.

What antics? What does that have to with his performances?

How would you (or anyone of us) have the slightest idea of his work ethic? Everyone has different techniques, because his isn't traditional doesn't mean he's lazy for christ sake. We all heard his car was one of the last ones at boa the other day, which is probably a better indicator of someone's work ethic.

God. If Cam Newton ever stepped in his throws no receiver would be able to catch the bullet that would proceed. If cam ever had “proper mechanics,” his receivers would literally suffer broken hands and fingers because he’d put so much torche and velocity on the ball. It’s already enough he can gunsling off his backfoot, and despite common thought he still is accurate with his own mechanics.

And come back to me about work ethic when you’re willing to go through practice 6am until late at night at your job everyday for a week. That’s what cam’s been doing lately. Piss poor argument.

His pocket movement and QB play is the whole reason our offense is even competitve, but blame our injured WR cors on him lmao.

Troll alert.

Umm, everyone that has ever spent time coaching or working around Cam has always praised his work ethic and dedication to improvement.

We’ve seen him go to quarterback camps, call his receivers in for private workouts etc.

i feel earlier in the year and then late Cams shoulder injury, as it also said on this weeks injury report is still a factor.

when he has a handle on it, he has 4 touchdown 60% games with the worst receiving corps and worst left tackle in the league.

when he doesn’t, he doesn’t. I believe a lot of his inconsistency in being accurate as hell one game then not is more to do with his shoulder having issues for a lot longer than the injury and recovery than anything to do with mechanics.

100% agree.

Mechanics, Mechanics, Mechanics.  There have been tons of successful QBs in this league that didn't have perfect mechanics.

How many gunslingers have been in this league.  There have been many QBs that weren't over the top throwers.   For Christ sake Russell Wilson flings the ball on a wing and a pray half the time.   It is about getting the job done.   Cam does a good job most of the time.   Last week was a crappy game and that is that.

If, in 2011, when we drafted Cam I could have looked into the future 7 years and viewed his body of work.  I would still select him #1.   He will be a HOFer.  Mark it down.

Anyone outside of Charlotte knows the antics I’m talking about. Wentz doesn’t Superman and do the kind of celebrations Cam does so the generational argument falls short (neither does Wilson or Goff or dare I mention Luck).

If Cam had such a great work ethic his accuracy wouldn’t be at the bottom of the league with the same poor footwork he had coming out of college. Elite players like Brady and Lebron are constantly trying to improve to get an edge. I don’t see it with Cam and this is my personal opinion.

He’ll be a HOFer for what he has done with his feet if he retired today and nobody is questioning that. My issue is his passing. Cam has Lebron potential and I don’t think he works as hard as most and relies on his physical gifts too often.

And don’t act like I’m the only person that feels this way...many former players that know and have played with Cam say the exact same thing.

Well it just so happens that your personal opinion on this matter is wrong and stupid.

This is spot on. People think that just bc he is out there is 100% healthy. Guess what he is not.  Andrew luck has similar surgery and can't even sniff the field and yet Cam is playing and team has a winning record. Not to mention with all the injuries this offense has had. Some people take Cam for granted where Luck and whatever other QB in the league would have all excuses in the world.  I commend Cam for playing hurt and giving this team all he has every Sunday..He will not make excuses but accepts all blame even tho he has valid reasons to not play well every game.

    • I thought he was from watching him play and also doing his first HC job. I thought he was the real deal  Apparently what happened is Kraft committed to Mayo and I don’t remember the timeline exactly - but Vrabel was unemployed at the same time Belichick was unemployed. They both were fired after the 2023 season.  Kraft hired Mayo. Who was kind of an obvious disaster. He probably already had the deal in place but I will give Kraft credit for not sleeping. With Vrabel out there for 2025 he made the move he needed to make and if it hurt Mayo’s feelings then oh well.  I guess you can tell I am not fond of Kraft but that was a really savvy move. At his age, pretty good. Still has it.
    • It’s going to feel like a home game for the bills. There are so many of their fans that live down here now, and many of them have never seen Allen play in person since their last visit was 8 years ago. It didn’t matter for the cowboys game, but it might here. I think we likely lose a close one. Probably a questionable flag or two that doesn’t go our way. X factor for Buffalo will be Kincaid and Knox. If we do win it’s because we get ahead and play keep away from Allen. FYI- I have many friends who are Bills fans that are fed up with Beane who we all revere and think is the one that got away. They feel like he was great to land Josh but has done a terrible job of building around him (especially at WR) and rely on him to become super man to win- sounds kind of familiar, like the last time we had a franchise QB.
    • I always thought of him as an uptight military family dude, didn't know he needs to wash that mouth out with soap lol.
