Marcus Ball: JR Ordered My Release Because of Anthem Gesture

pretty shitty argument to consider the sole reason of being cut was because of an anthem gesture lmao when you've been a practice squad player for most of your career.

So has Bersin, but yet here is time after time. Never even a sniff from another team

cam newton showed his hand in a fist as a touchdown celebration once, indicating black power and his stance as an advocate for equality and better treatment of blacks.

i don't see him being cut anytime soon.

maybe marcus ball really was just a practice squad player who happened to be bad. doubt it really was anything underlying or much of a conspiracy at that.

that being said, all other accounts of JR being a piece of poo are in play. I doubt this case in particular since it appears it's more talent related and a reach to consider it purely on pointing to the sky, but the others are valid and we definitely need a better owner.

bullies never pick on people with more power than them. if Newton was cut for that gesture, it would be the end of the Panthers, essentially. the fanbase would be gone, JR would be gone (he is anyway but for other reasons we found out later).

Cam has more power and influence than JR. he is more valuable to the team. Cam would win that battle. so JR went after targets he knew he could bully and get away with it.

Yup and we know Bersin cuts JRs grass. if Ball cut his grass he'd be on the team too. JR been played favorites just like he did with Smitty he didn't release SMitty until his 3rd team fight...and just like with TD and Olsen

i don't doubt jerry richardson has been a piece of poo. the other stories of 'jean day' and the like are pretty complex and very telling of something that has definitely happened and richardson should be punished for.

i just doubt stories like these trying to excuse a practice squad player being cut on the basis of an anthem gesture when he's been, er, a practice squad player for the majority of his career. i don't think there's a huge conspiracy behind this instance.

Smitty was tatted up and black as fug....yea THE Marcus Ball got released because he wasn't good not for a non protest of putting his finger up in the air.

You’re missing it. He was just bad enough to be released and it can be stated it was for performance. Don’t act like we don’t have career practice squad players all over our roster. Moral of the story is that he wasn’t good enough to put up with the distraction his protest might have caused. It’s that simple.

It’ll be Tina Becker and you’ll like it.

I’ll take that all day. That’s a great selling point for the Panthers and The American Dream. A former cheerleader who is now running the franchise just got handed a Lombardi, who wants to buy this franchise? The line of potentially great suitors would be endless.

You just put Bersin in the same context as all time Panther greats. Smh

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
