Marcus Ball: JR Ordered My Release Because of Anthem Gesture

Also sucks how he acknowledged JRs distaste for dreadlocks and tatttoos. I’m sick of this good ole boy ownership and that’s exactly why I don’t want some NASCAR guy coming in to repeat the same poo JR did

Dreads, tattoos, earrings, etc. all those things probably make JR very uncomfortable. Someone mentioned Alvin Kamara earlier, and JR would’ve never allowed for him to be drafted. Most the African Americans on our team are clean cut. Julius isn’t, but Julius is different. If Julius wasn’t Julius, he’s probably be gone the minute he decided to stay in the locker room during the anthem. What’s funny is he probably has no care that Bersin rocks long hair.

Yes. And then someone said that there was some scrub that JR wanted released and Gettleman didn’t do it and that’s why he was fired. This seems like it might be the guy.

See, there's a part of the story that intrigues me.

Let's say that it's true he was released because of his protests. Frankly, I don't have a problem believing that. As mentioned, practice squad players can be cut for pretty much anything. Richardson would know that he could release this guy without any kind of a major controversy.

But then three days later, he's signed back to the Practice Squad.

Why?

How does a guy who pisses off the owner of the team and gets cut wind up back on the team within just a few days? It would be assumed that the owner didn't want him around, so that doesn't make sense.

Unless it was done under the owner's radar.

Jerry Richardson doesn't have to be in on every single transaction made. I seriously doubt they go to him and ask if it's okay to re-sign a practice squad player or shuffle the bottom of the roster.

Suppose this was done without his knowledge?

Now, it's pretty tough to keep a secret like that within an operation forever, so at some point you have to figure he's gonna find out. What happens then?

Makes ya wonder.

i can agree with this.

i just doubt the whole reason was solely based on racism. could racism have played a part? probably.

but that's not the main reason a bottom roster churner got cut.

Oh absolutely. If you’ve got a guy at the bottom of the roster that been cut half a dozen times and he went to the bosses alma mater and you have a guy that’s also been cut half a dozen times and also has beliefs that don’t intertwine with those of the organization (this meaning from JR’s point of view), who’s gonna get cut? It’s not exactly surprising.

And then the next week if Bersin is at the bottom and a move needs to be made to bring someone in, nepotism goes out the window and Bersin gets cut too.

Thats the way these things work.

So, are you saying he doesn’t have a distaste for dreads, cornrows, and tats? Didn’t he tell Cam not to get any of that?

He told Cam not to get any of that, and Ball, who’s a former member of the team says he knows JR doesn’t like any of that, yet you still don’t believe he has a distaste for them?

Yeah supposedly the rumors were some of the guys in the secondary wanted to protest and it was shut down IIRC?  Marcus Ball, Tre Boston, and maybe even Bene?

Basically from that moment on, any poor play would result in them being gone.

  • Ball (practice squad scrub), gone.
  • Tre, frustrating guy on the field, expendable with his outspokenness?
  • Bene, Julio murdered him.

It makes sense...and for the same reasons already stated, THE MARCUS BALL, was a scrub.  If you're a scrub, anything you say can and will be used against you by your owner who is under investigation.

Who is Marcus Ball?

Im not going to defend Jerry, jury is still out on what he did or didn’t do, am I’m like that with everyone until the facts come out.

however, Marcus Ball?

Our players had a group push to get Jerry to open up about the anthem and injustice stuff.

So again, who is Marcus Ball? I haven’t seen his name anywhere in the NFL this year.

as far as good ol boy ownership and all that, I’d be all about some fun ownership, would prefer some one that’s homegrown from the Carolinas,.. or at least has spent a great deal of their life and fortune there, calls it home.

I’m really tired of race wars— it’s 2018, and it’s time for everyone to stop with the BS.

Actually it could be.

It's entirely possible that this event is what caused Ball to be let go. Since he's a practice squad player, it's easily justified by other things and flies under the radar.

But it's very possible that those factors don't get him cut without this protest.

I think he absolutely has a distaste for them. That being said I would (and did, initially) give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe it’s because he wants a clean cut organization. Much like how the Yankees don’t let players have beards.

That is until other information comes out and then you get the feeling he just doesn’t like it because it looks too “urban” in his mind, which then makes it go from (in my mind at least) that’s ok it’s his choice to have a clean cut organization to something a little bit more unsettling.

We are now on the latter part IMO.
