Expect Scott Turner, Norv Turners son, to become the QB coach for Cam

I apologize if this was already mentioned, but IF we get Norv, expect his son in a package deal to become our QB coach.

In Minnesota, Norvs last OC gig, he was the QB coach under his father. Interestingly enough he previously coached at Carolina on RR.  Currently he is working as an Offensive Analyst with Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.

“In 2011, Turner started his NFL coaching career with the Carolina Panthers under first-year head coach Ron Rivera. Turner served as the offensive quality control coach for two seasons with the Panthers

In 2014, Scott Turner was hired by the Minnesota Vikings to be their quarterbacks coach under first-year head coach Mike Zimmer and his father and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.[5]Turner spent a lot of time working with Teddy Bridgewater, drafted 32nd overall in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.[6] In 2015, the Vikings won the NFC North division title but lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the wild card.”

He doesn’t really have much of a Resume per say, but what do you guys think?  Good for Cam?

there’s no way he’s the new OC’s son and coincidentally the best man for the job.

I agree with you about him not being the best for Cam, but that exactly what happened in Minnesota. Also seeing how he already coached here, RR fondness for Norv, and Rons loyalty, I’m willing to bet this goes down.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I like position coaches to be a former player, preferably a pro. I don't care if they were a winner or not, but when it comes to managing the physical mechanics and mentality of a player, I don't see how anyone who hasn't "been there" can do that job. I'd rather see a Testaverde, or even a Ken Dorsey do that job than a quality control guy who maybe understands offense holistically, but not the position specifically.

ron needs to not be comfortable. he’s not surrounding himself with the best people for the job, he’s surrounding himself with buddies who can do a pretty ok job with lots of happy pal time en route to 9-7 and a floundering offense

this is a pretty pessimistic outlook but it’s emblematic of this team to value warm fuzzy ~friendship~ over the cold bite of accountability to peers who demand excellence. jerry richardson’s culture of mediocrity matriculates to every level of this organization.

Scott was a QB in college - not a very good one but nonetheless he has played the position which is meaningful.

also cam newton’s quarterback coach may turn out to be just as important as who’s coordinating the offense. why would you hire a coordinator and then just flippantly tack on the QB coach as an afterthought like wahhhhl shucks norv, why dontcha bring yor boy on? he shore is a good boy you’ve got there, he’ll do a fine job i reckon *slurps saccharine southern beverage*

if this all goes down ron will have sealed his fate and the next ownership group will toss him out by his underwear

I think Ron is more overly loyal than most, however pretty much every HC hires assistants that they're familiar and comfortable with and that they can trust. Hiring someone you've never worked with before or don't know is extremely risky, and often times doesn't work out.
