We can’t go into next year with a Worley/Bradberry CB tandem

Overreacting, the issue isn’t CB but the safety play. Panthers needs to draft a y’all & rangy safety similar mold to Malik Hooker.

Safety play ain't got poo to do with taking bad angles,  over-pursuing, and mis-tackling.

Norman showed much more promise his rookie year than either Bradberry or Worley, and that's even though he was ultimately benched for being hard-headed. Sure, Bradberry gave us some promise his rookie year,  but it appears that his time out due to injury just hid a lot of his faults. He is a little slow and not as athletic as I'd like.  Worley, to me anyway,  looks like the same hot-cold tackler and inconsistent coverage guy that he was in 2016.

I didn't see any growth this year out of either one if truth be told.  I see back-up material to fringe starters,  not guys you want for any consistent amount of time in the defensive backfield.

If we go into the season with this duo as our starting corners,  we will get the same ultimate result that we got this year,  and I don't want that,  and neither should anyone else.

Just my opinion.

Worley plays aggressive, which I like

Aggressive? Maybe on run support. Worley is an above average run defender as a corner, but in the passing game, I've never seen a corner provide as soft a coverage as consistently as Worley has. I know we have a zone coverage scheme, but at least make the receiver work for space at the LOS. On most passing plays, Worley might as well be a safety as he stands 10+ yards away from the receiver on his side of the field.

I'm thinking 1 new starting safety and 1 new starting CB. We'll have to deal with Bradberry and Coleman still in the backfield for another year. Would like to replace all 4 but thats hard to do in 1 offseason.

No no no, if ONE person from the secondary needs to leave, its Coleman. Most unathletic guy in the league.

You do realize you're talking about a past Pro-Bowler?

Coleman had a down year to be sure,  but I  think that it's a function of pressing and trying to do too much because of overcompensating for the drop in corner play.

Don't get me wrong,  I'm always up for an upgrade,  but chemistry is obviously more important than people think.

If J-No ends up back here,  then Coleman would go back to being Coleman.

Coleman was a pro bowler a couple years ago not anymore. That play against the Bucs were he let Adam fuging Humphries beat him in a jump ball was all I needed to see, one of the most unathletic plays I’ve ever seen.

They were left on an island in man to man coverage all year with Wilks sending the house every play. Both of them were drafted as zone CBs to play under McDermott but Wilks has a different philosophy which didn’t help them. I’m fine with both of them as they should only get better and since we have much bigger needs at this point.

A nice young athletic safety with some range would greatly benefit both of them. I’m fine with both Adams and Coleman individually, but together they don’t have nearly enough range. One of them has to be replaced.

im not fine with coleman in any circumstance. He was on the bad end of opposing teams highlight reels all season long

It's kinda crazy when you realize that other than Tre Boston (who we should've kept IMO), Sherrod Martin is the only drafted safety by us that's actually made the final roster and/or actually seen real playing time with us in the past 10 years or so.  We drafted DJ Campbell but cut him before he ever played a snap and Jordan Pugh played like 3 total games or some poo in his short time here.

We've neglected the safety position like a mother fuger for a reaaaaaallllly long time now.  The one decent one we've had in God knows how long (Mike Mitchell) was stolen away from us by Pittsburgh after they backed the money trucks up to him after only one year of production.

Coleman was never a Pro Bowler.  I mean to be fair he probably should've made it in 2015, and was arguably Pro Bowl caliber that season, but he didn't make it.

Those missed tackles though when it was clearly his responsibility.....

    • Okay then, tell me what your expectations are for Thielen, XL, and Coker this year If someone wants to come out there and say they think Thielen is only getting 600-700 yards this year, then yea, I'm going to then expect T-Mac to get to 1,000. If someone wants to say they think XL or Coker is going to fall back to 300 yards this year, then yea, I'm going to expect T-Mac to get to 1,000. People seem to think I'm making excuses for why T-Mac can't get there, but it's the literal opposite, my expectations for him stem from my belief our other WRs for the first time in who knows how long.   We finally have a legitimate and full WR room, not sure that's happened since the Smitty and Moose days.  It's going to make them all better players, but it will also suppress all of their stats as they're all going to cannibalize each other a little bit.
    • It’s certainly not my shining moment. But I still made it. Running the Sacramento marathon in December and hope to have a more Jake Delhomme-level of stardom there. The Everyman that overcomes obstacles to almost reach the pinnacle of success only to have it taken away by Adam Vinateri.
