Todd McShay Mock Draft 2.0: Panthers pick Christian Kirk.

24. Carolina Panthers - Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M

Picks of significance:

27. New Orleans Saints - Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College

26. Atlanta Falcons - James Daniels, G/C, Iowa

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Minkah Fitzpatrick, CB, Alabama
The most dynamic defensive player in college football this past year was Minkah Fitzpatrick. He is a safety, but can play multiple positions on the field. He is a swiss army knife at Alabama giving offensive coordinators nightmares. He truly is the total package with his size, speed, football IQ, and athletic ability. He will be a cornerstone of a defense in the NFL for many years.

18. Seattle Seahawks - Mike Hughes, CB, UCF

1. Cleveland Browns - Sam Darnold, QB, USC
Darnold entered the season as the No. 1 pick and appears to be back on top because of his arm strength, accuracy, and mobility. However, turnovers and decision-making have become major question marks with him this year. The Browns had the most interceptions last season 28, but hopefully, for Cleveland's sake Darnold's upside is worth the risk.

Granted, I have not seen this kid play, but lack of speed from a 5'11" WR? Is that really what we want in a 1st round pick? That profile said he got open a lot on rub routes and is not an ideal down the field WR. His consistent productivity is definitely a plus, as is his ability to help in the return game.

He's no better than Curtis Samuel, I think he was just a solid college receiver not super electrifying. Being a SEC guy I watched him a lot never stood out to me. He's a second or third rounder in my opinion. Panther's defense came in as oldest in the NFL at the beginning of the year, and in the last few weeks the secondary was the worst in the league. Defensive end and safety/corner(Worley sucks) are bigger needs. The defense is whats going to carry us. Kuechly even said got to get it back to 2015 form.

    • If Thielen’s mentorship leads to XL being a reliable pass catcher, it will be worth every penny of his contract. Ask yourself this, who else is going to help him? It’s a crowded room and every WR is fighting for play time. They don’t play this game for funsies. There is serious $ on the line for these dudes. They can’t afford to be buried on the roster come contract #2 time. This is their shot. I’m not saying the intentions are nefarious, but there is contract money riding on play time for these dudes.  Coker has #2 square is his sights. better believe that. Why would he help XL? Would you?  Moore? Nah. JAG.  Horn knows he’s a fringe WR. He used to hustle neighborhood kids in to racing growing up. I don’t see him being the helping kind.  Hunter? He’ going to be too busy battling Coker for the #3 spot.  There is literally no better person for the mentor role for XL than Thielen.
    • but...isn't that sort of highlighting WHY we are moaning about AT?  Right now our primary weapon (based on offensive reps, targets, etc) is an old slow WR who we overpay that doesn't really get open and get do anything with the ball in his hands.  and we are at the bottom in spending in terms of pass catchers.  Maybe the front office shouldn't of arranged the roster so that it is only .....AT and cast of unproven hopefuls youngsters.    I mean, the AT complaint is really not about AT.  It's about the front office.
    • I'm encouraged and confident the Panthers won't be the worst team in the NFL next year.
