...and it sounds like he may realize that his group might not be able to compete.

A local ownership group plans to submit a bid for the Carolina Panthers by April 1, but the offer will have to “make business sense,” Charlotte businessman Felix Sabates, who is part of the group, told the Observer this week.

“It can’t just be an ego purchase,” said Sabates, who has said his group includes current minority owners of the team and NASCAR drivers.

What a crap article by the observer that takes literally one sentence from Felix and formulates an uninteresting and non informative view into this topic.  A bunch of business minded folks want to make a good investment?!? Hold the freaking presses.

Felix and his group never had a majority owner.

They have always been talking more about 10-20 years down than right now.

They just throw sound bites around that are meaningless.

There is absolutely no proof that a dome is the only requirement to make a Charlotte base Carolina team viable.  A non domed stadium is currently ranking in the top 1/3 for team revenue.  Would a new stadium 10-20 years from now be better fro revenue than a non domed stadium? Probably.  But a new ownership group that HAS to have it shows how out of touch they are with this process.  Even if a Tepper or a Navvaro see a domed stadium as a possible bump in future revenue, blustering about it pre bids is just a 1 way ticket to fans hating you.  Keep that card in your back pocket and run a solid team in BOA for 10 years and then start leaning toward what the plan is next.  Face palm felix.  Face palm.

He is seriously like a teenager who can't afford a car but is already talking about the girls he is going to pick up in his new mustang GT.  Except he is saying it to the girls who know he is a big idiot.

Outside of the "this might be more expensive than I thought" tone of Sabates' words, the most interesting thing here is the timing.

The first paragraph of the article says they're planning to submit a bid by April 1st. I'm guessing that's either on or around the deadline for submission. So basically, there's about a month to go before the real wheeling and dealing commences.

Expectation right now is that the sale will be finalized at the owner's meetings that begin on May 21st, so that makes sense.
