Probably so. But it sure seemed like most of the chatter in the past few weeks was that it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Peppers was going to be back. Then as the "legal tampering" period came closer all of a sudden it's up in the air. Money talks even for a guy who should be set for life many times over.

Julius Peppers is the reason that I'm a Panthers fan, but if he signs elsewhere after all that talk about coming home and having no desire to play anywhere else at this point in his career then he can go fug himself as far as I'm concerned.

That is fair.

It would definitely be a total slap in the face to switch sides now.

Like why even come home?

Losing peppers would be horrible for the DL....DE would become a big need again....

It's already a HUGE need for the future. Peppers is just a stopgap, Mario is over 30 himself, and Horton is nothing more than a rotational guy. Hall and the rest of the youngsters are basically nothing but big question marks at this point. Without Peppers, DE becomes a HUGE need RIGHT NOW.  If Peppers isn't back, you could make a decent argument that DE is our #1 need considering our defensive philosophy under Rivera of leaning on the front seven and a strong pass rush.

This Peppers stuff makes you appreciate guys like TD who loves his city and who plays for his teammates and fans more than false guarantees or a couple more dollars. I'll give Smitty the same credit, he may have talked junk about leaving but his actions spoke louder, if allowed he would have retired a Panther.

Thomas Davis Panther GOAT LB deserves our love

i'm sure all of you saying fug peppers were the first to get excited he came back and the first to clamour for him to retire as a panther.

Obviously. Everyone loves Pep.

This would be a slap in the face of epic proportions after all of the hoopla surrounding him last year.

Absolutely. But that was taking the man at his word. If he signs elsewhere then everything he said upon coming back last year was just a big steaming pile of bullshit.

Being a "greatest" depends on how you treat the people who love you.

I hope he values his legacy which will last longer than his $.

Comingback to NC in front of all the people who've supported and wished him well for 20+yrs was something I thought meant a lot to him.

Damn, Pep

I feel like the Richardson “no kneeling” thing rubbed Peppers the wrong way

Uhh and JR will be gone this season so that should have zero impact. If Pep leaves for NE fans should be pissed at him and he should understand those consequences. He could be among the greatest Carolina sports figures ever, or among the most hated. It’s completely up to him.

This. Like I said previously, he's made enough money in his career that he should be set for life several times over. I can't imagine anyone is going to throw mega-bucks at a 38 year old DE anyway. So if he spurns the Panthers and the hometown fans for what amounts to spare change in the couch...

Yep, this is a legacy move. He either goes down as a Panthers legend or quite possibly the most hated Panther of all time that didn't spend multiple years in prison for an unthinkable crime.

After all that 'feel good' talk from Peppers about doing right by the fans and finishing his career here before last year started, to actually and most likely leaving us again.  Judas.

I'm not going to call him Judas, just don't get why he would do this instead of cementing his legacy here in Carolina? I understand going for a ring one last time, but this isn't the NBA... Pats are a good bet to make the game again, but if they don't win (or even if they do) was it worth alienating your home fan base? He's already a sure-fire HOFer, so I don't get it.
