soon to sign WR Jarius Wright to play slot

Either our current wide receivers are just horrible or the play design for our wide outs has just been horrendous (probably a combination of the the two), because there are only a handful of plays in the highlight video below where Wright isn't absolutely wide open. Hopefully he can bring that speed and intelligence to Carolina.

I remember Arkansas having two good wide receivers that draft class and we drafted the crappy one out of the two. Joe Adams if my memory is correct

Yeah, Greg Childs was also in that class and had by far the most pro potential out of all of them (6’4 and ran a 4.4) until he tore just about every ligament in both knees up. Had comparable numbers to Julio Jones and Alshon Jeffrey at one point in college.

Pretty sure Wright led the SEC in receiving in 2011.

Way back when Norv was first hired, took a look at free agents that could come from his system. Jerick McKinnon's and Jarius Wright are two that were mentioned.

Sounds like he's in the vein of Cotchery and Proehl. Guys like that make good security blankets.

We literally had one pass play the entire season... All WRs run verts and CMC is the check down. Pretty sure a 5 year old could have easily schemed against our offense last year.

Late to this, but this move makes sense. Veteran option in the slot.

This from @scott_fowler - who is currently on the road but called in the scoop citing a source - Panthers are expected to soon sign WR Jarius Wright to play in the slot. Most recently with the Vikings. Has experience in Norv Turner's offense.

Wide open in highlight video? That's odd.

From a buddy of mine, a long-suffering Vikings fan:

"I think you'll be happy with him. That said, I'm the wrong guy to ask about Wright. He was REALLY raw when he came into the league, bad routes, lots of drops, etc. He definitely wasn't worth the last contract we gave him when we signed him, but he actually stepped up his game. He's a good slot, slant, wr screen guy, get him the ball in space and he can make a guy miss. By the time he was worth a poo, we had Diggs so he just didn't have a place. He'll never be the jump ball guy, never the perfect 10 and out toe tip the sidelines guy, but he can turn a 5-yard slant into a 20-yard catch and run if someone takes the top off the defense."
