I can see it. That's why he chose his words poorly. But he wasn't trying to say that. This "got ya" mentality is a distraction to any real conversation. This is in the same vein as "what do you mean 'you people'?" And so many other examples of unnecessary outage.

I don't know what you are disagreeing with then?  I never said he was trying to be offensive.  Just that, in the context of the discussion, it was an offensive thing to say (hence the reactions and hence his apology) or at the very least, a lousy thing to say.

The argument you guys seem to be making is that something can't be offensive if it isn't intended that way, but that isn't true.

No, that's not my argument at all. My argument is that he was telling the truth and just describing the reality of the situation. When somebody is offended by reality then maybe they should focus on what they see in the mirror rather than the messenger of that truth.

Yeah he’s just selling the team out of spite that makes perfect sense.

He's in poor health and likely doesn't want to fight a huge long battle just to keep the team for what could be another year or two before he dies anyways. He's always been a league first guy and is doing what is best for the league and himself at this point. I mean look at the Sterling situation and how much of a mess that was for the NBA image and how long the battle went on for. Hardly an admission of guilt to decide to sell the team now.

Nah. No southern man who’s accomplished as much as Jerry has is gonna just go quietly as his image/legacy is tarnished for something he didn’t do, especially one who knows he’s at the end of his life. He hasn’t even bothered to deny it, that tells me everything I need to know.
