Duke Ejiofor, DE, Wake Forest

So I've actually fallen in love with the draft after studying up on our picks and I'm super excited for this draft class so far.

So here's a guy who I really think we could take are 101, or at some point in the draft, based on what we've been doing this draft and I'd like people to know about him before we take him and people are mad because they've never heard of him before.

Duke is exactly what Ron likes at DE. He's not elite. He's not gonna be an all pro, but he's a very solid DE against the run and a solid pass rusher.

Needs to devolp his pass rush move repertoire, but he has some solid players ahead of him and he can add to the defensive end rotation. I love his motor and his pursuit to the ball. He'd be another piece to what we're building on defense.

Anyway I have no idea what we're gonna do at 101 or honestly the rest of this draft. I've honestly never been so excited for a draft class since I've been into football.

I really like Ejiofor and to be honestly he can definitely play the run and rush the passer. Sweat injury issue is a big concern but if you going to take him you better take him at this spot. We need to add more depth to DE because a injury to Peppers, Addison, or Horton and we end up very short at the position.

Duke Ejiofor almost has the initials DJ and that seems to be a theme for us.  Hello, I am MHS, and I look for patterns in decisions that unlock bad childhoods and stuff like that.  I think Marty picks players with DJ in their names because he likens himself to the youngest child on the Roseanne show.  Verbally abused and picked on.  Let's face it, Marty is not turning down modeling gigs--we have reason to assume he was targeted as a child. Then the Roseanne show comes back on, flashbacks, and it shows in the draft.  Yet to be proven, but my theory is airtight.

I agree that he fills the role right now better than Sweat, and I am not a Sweat supporter--I  just think we are going to address it.  Sweat faster and bigger (taller, heavier) than Mario Addison was in 2011 when he was a 23-year old combine participant.  If I am drafting a DE on day 3, I am looking for upside, and yes, expecting a project.  We should always be grooming a DE...It took Johnson and Hardy 3 years before they were dominant.  Horton has been worth the investment, improving every year.

That may mean something, it may not.  Ejiofor is said to have a limited ceiling because he lacks athleticism.  He is a one-trick pony.  Now, I never know what to think because they have said that about many hall of famers--so if we get him, I will be happy.

I take Ejiofor all day over Sweat. Duke was wakes Dline. He can speed rush and bull rush. He can also play the run. Think he could replace Horton day 1.

You have seen him more than I have---I am going on what I read.  If we get him, he could be that Greg Hardy-type day 3 steal. I am on board.  But if we get Sweat, understand that he is an athletic freak--nothing more at this time.

Idk about being on Hardys level. He doesn't have the bend that hardy had. But I could see him as our LDE in waiting.

One more post about Sweat--the athlete:

Yes, he is developmental.  All day 3 DEs are.  Addison is over 30, Peppers is gone next year.  Who knows what Hall brings.

He is 6 feet 5 inches tall (that is pretty tall).  He weighs 251 lbs. (Could put 15-20 lbs on that frame in a year),   He runs a 4.53 40.  That is a tenth of a second faster than Rashaan Gaulden runs.  His hands are over 10" and he has nearly 35" arms.  "Oh my,!" you should say.  His vertical is just under 40 inches.  That means he could, standing flatfooted, deflect a pass or a kick 11 feet, 5 inches off the ground.  His broad jump was over 10 feet.

Production?  In his last 20 games he had 97 tackles, 24 for a loss, and 12.5 sacks.

Worth a day three pick?

The injury history is a still a big concern even on day three. It’s still very possible Sweat ends up on the roster with the talent he has. When you look at Duke he has got better every year in college and has the ability to play inside and outside. I think you mainly would want to just use Sweat as DE on third and long and Ejiofor you can use on any down with a lot more scheme and just overall versatility.

Being slow is an absolute requirement to play safety for the Panthers. Tre Boston was probably cut because he was too fast.

    • Do I want Bryce Young to be a good QB? Yes, the Panthers homer in me is rooting for him to turn it around against all odds and prove all the haters wrong.  Do I think Bryce Young will be a good QB? No. And the odds are he won’t be. I didn’t think he’d translate to the NFL from the moment I watched him against the Texas defense in 2022, a game Alabama only won because Quinn Ewers got knocked out of the game. When he faced pressure he looked like sh*t and that’s the exact same QB we saw in the NFL. He’s too short to step up in the pocket so you have to design a gimmick offense to allow him to improvise plays. He didn’t scream “first overall pick” to me at least.  Meanwhile CJ Stroud played out of his mind in the biggest game of his life against the best defense in college football and the Panthers said nah we’re going to draft the 5’9 guy who couldn’t carve up an average Texas defense.
