Our running game going into next season, better or worst?

I'm trying to talk myself into saying it will be better, but since we lost a Pro Bowl guard and didn't really replace him with anyone new its hard to be optimistic.

I think CAP might be better than alof of people think and maybe Moton steps up.  Also play calling and design can make a huge difference.

We don't need a "feature back". The game is evolving, folks. The pro game is not about feature backs, #1 WRs, or "specialists".

You need a running game still, no doubt. You need to be able to get at least 125 yards rushing. Somehow, some way, this is a necessity for a playoff team unless you can throw the ball 50 times a game every game at a VERY high efficiency. Cam can't be the leading rusher again, for sure. If the RBs on the roster can amass 125+ yards rushing per game, we'll be fine. I believe this can be done. If CMC can hit 50 yards, CAP can hit 50, and Cam and WRs can compliment with keepers and reverses...easy, really.

We don't need a "#1 WR". We need a group of receivers that compliment each other and plays that allow for receivers to have chances at breaking open provided they run the routes correctly.

We don't need "a scat back" or "a 3rd down back". We need players that can and will do anything in any situation. Those are the players that standout. Look at your best offensive "skill position" guys (WRs, RBs, TE). The best are good in EVERY situation. You can use them in any down and distance. Look at the playoff teams. Look at those rosters.

Quit living in the past. The old NFL is dead and not returning. The new NFL is about having athletes and lots of them. Simple and plain.

Agreed I think if cmc gets 15 carries a game and cap fills in on inside runs for 5 to 10 carries we can get close to 125 Uf cmc adds a bit of strength in the summer he may get upwards of 1500 all purpose yards

It should be better with a real OC and real WRs.

Well, Norv/Cam will have to implement 3 step drop backs and get the ball out faster if the oline is no good.

I guess that's why CMC/MOORE/SAMUEL shifty/quick slot wr types have been drafted.

The line was good enough last year for a playoff push. Losing Norwell does hurt the run game but other than that I don't see why it's not going to be a top 10 unit. I honestly can't express enough how bad Shula was and how a good OC can solve protection problems simply by scheming.

I'll take this guy as our hammer -

Would be excellent depth, but not so sure how a guy 2 inches taller than CAP and 5 lbs lighter would be a “hammer”.

Unless maybe we have differing definitions of “hammer”.

This is a crazy question.  We lost our starting RB and our starting LG.  There's no way the running game would be better, on it's own.

A better question is, will the offense be better?  I think it will.  I think that Moore and Samuel's return will all but assure that.  They'll make the running game look better because teams will have to focus on them instead of our backs.  Olsen's return is a big deal as well.  So I don't much care if one facet of our offense is not as good as last year, because the unit as a whole will be improved.

    • I mean, he's a professional athlete.  What you think as a fan vs what he should think as a player are completely different.  Being bad doesn't mean you should lack confidence in yourself, and really that is true in all forms of life.  Do everything you want to do with confidence. Justin Fields sucks, but does he ever play like someone who doesn't believe in his own abilities?   Obviously you need more than confidence to be a high-level NFL player, and Bryce will never be that.  But he could still create 2-3 extra plays a game if he allowed himself to play more "free" like he did in the second half of last season.  The fact he refuses to use his legs to pick up yards nowadays hurts this team.  Simple things like that would go a long way for us, even if not for him.
    • I've always thought it odd that the QB is the only guy in the roster who carries a record. If a RB puts up 1200 yards but the team sucks then everyone still says the RB had a good year. If a QB puts up good numbers put the D is atrocious and the win loss record isn't great due to that then the narrative is that the QB can't win. Now that we're finding a way to win with suddenly dominant D and dominate running game people are trying to shift to this "Bryce is just a winner" narrative while he puts up bottom of the league numbers while near the top of the league in turnovers. It's just funny to watch.
