The reality is that one day we will move on from Cam just like every team has to move on from one era to another. This is the Cam Newton era. How long it lasts depends on how Cam continues to evolve.  If by 2020 we haven't won a Superbowl maybe we need to move on. If that is the goal and we didn't reach it then we might need to move on. Being relevant might be fine when you have sucked before but the bar is raised. Cam has the weapons he needs to win it all. He has no excuses this year. Just getting to the playoffs isn't enough. If mediocre isn't enough for the team then Cam being a top 15 quarterback might not be enough either.

Cam will be 31 years old in 2 years thats still a pretty good age for a QB. Matt ryan just got his third contract at 32 years old and cam has matched his success in only 7 seasons when ryan has had weapons his whole career. If the falcons are not giving up him why would we give up on Cam? He is easily the best qb we have ever had. Also, you are right he does have weapons now...while there will be immediate improvement they are also young weapons as well as a new OC installing his offense. We probably wont even see this offense at its peak until year 2 or 3. So saying we should consider giving up on cam in 2 seasons doesnt benefit us at all. It semi destroys everything we have done this off season to get this team back to a superbowl contender. Lastly, i dont see any reason why we should doubt Cam wont be more of a pocket passer by that age with everything we are doing to help him out.

Lots of angst there. I have faith that Cam will make the transition to more of a pocket passer. It is one of the major reasons that Turner was brought in and Shula was fired. But to assume that Cam is safe based on what he has done up to now is a huge assumption. If Hurney and Rivera are both gone who is to stop the new guys from dumping our expensive vets and replacing with young cheap guys? If Tepper is as cheap as folks say, he might decide the quickest way to profitability is only spent what you have to since with PSL owners you are guaranteed sellouts every week regardless of the quality of the team on the field. I would absolutely hate that idea and I think it would be the wrong way to go but again to assume anything at this point is highly speculative at best.

And let's be clear, more than one writer has said that paying Ryan 30 million on a five year deal was a big mistake.

I love that this organization is finally going in a new direction.  I hope that and believe that our days off mediocrity are finally finished.   I believe someone like Mr. Tepper is not going to be ok with average to below average.  I believe that he's a winner and will demand excellence at all levels of the organization.  I have wanted the Panthers under new ownership for awhile now.  It's finally happened.  Thanks goes out to JR for bringing a team to the Carolina's.   That will be his legacy.  We are moving to a new chapter in our history now.

IMHO an absentee owner sees this as an investment. He's not really going to care. If the team starts losing and losing money and becomes unprofitable, the team is out and somewhere else and the NFL is more than willing to help with that. Personally I don't expect any changes, which is fine as long as we're competitive. But if he lets Hurney do whatever and has no say, then we have an issue.

Yea and pretty much all of you insider info was garbage.

At least I get my football prediction right......I know you wanted Shepard to stay on the team but I guess they like Byrd > Shepard.

Alas, wrong again.  I fully expected Shepard to be let go.

The funny thing there is the team asking him to take a pay cut means they wanted to keep him, just at a reduced price.  Had he accepted, he'd still be here.

And as I recall, you also predicted Navarro would rally and win the bid, so again...no.

keep in mind this guy made is fortunes HEDGING. this piece of his portfolio is probably his safest.

I joke about other cities but from my sources who are high level money guys with sports ties rave about him. That's good enough for me.

I wanted Navarro, and frankly, I still want Navarro, but that's not going to happen. All I can hope for now is winning football and whatever lip service this Miami based, life long Steelers fan is giving to keeping the team in the Carolinas actually has some truth behind it.
