The deal on face value makes zero sense...  in fact, it's horrible.  It appears we downgraded in talent and took on more money all in one deal...

Then you have to remember it was Dwight.  The same Dwight whose hometown teammates celebrated when they found out he was traded.  The same Dwight who poured all last year when he didn't get his touches and would start purposely trying to sabotage games until he did.  The same Dwight who Batum, Marvin, and many others took subliminal shots at for ruining the locker room and on-court chemistry.  The same Dwight who we acquired for just Miles Plumlee...  then you realize, he's such a bad teammate that we took on a horrible player and extra salary to get rid of him.

I hate the deal.  But, I'm happy Dwight is gone.  It's the only way I can make peace with it...  but man, I really, really hate this deal and it makes me loathe what may be ahead in the Kupchack era.

Duck Nic soft ass Batum.. His opinion on any teammate should be taken with no attention paid to it . I hate that soft pussy waste of crap..

The word is, one of the guys we enamored with at 11 is SGA from Kentucky.  If we get him, the backup/big PG spot wont cost anything.  I think that hinges on if Knox is there at 11...  then again, if we get #8, I'm starting to think it is to take Knox then SGA at 11.

This is my ideal scenario. If we can come out of the draft with SGA & Knox I would be extremely happy and it would be a good start of the rebuild

What if you plan on tanking for 2 years?  Does the move make more sense then?

True, it does more sense then. We will have a good pick the next 2 years with $16m coming off the books from Mosgov and by that time I believe MKG and Marvin would be off and only Nic and Cody would have another year.

Actually that time frame does make a lot more sense. Tanking seems like the plan.

Any chance Mozgov could be part of a Cleveland trade? I'm not saying we are planning that far ahead, but it does seem odd that we practically have an expiring contract away for nothing.

He is loved in Cleveland. Maybe a Kemba, Mozgov and something for the 8th pick and something else?

Kemba & Mozgov for #8, Tristan Thompson, JR Smith...and I wish Hood's rights

The move above saves Cleveland money, and they have some trade exceptions they can probably play with to sign a couple others.  Also don't know how our trade exception from Mozgov is going to work in.

BUT...all of this is probably a moot point since LBJ is leaving Cleveland.  Poor Kemba if he is traded there, only for LBJ to bounce

More mediocre Kentucky guys with a yr of college with no championship pedigree...please no

Championship pedigree really doesn't mean anything when talking about NBA production. Please tell me out of all the all nba players how many won the NCAA championship?

Jordan's failures in Charlotte:

traded for DeSagana Diop, traded away Gerald Wallace, drafted Adam Morrison over Roy, Gay, Rondo, Lowry, and Millsap. Traded Okafor for Chandler, drafted Augustin over Brook Lopez, drafted Biyombo over Klay Thompson and Kawhi, drafted Kaminsky over Booker, drafted Zeller over Giannis (but everyone else passed too), drafted Vonleh, drafted MKG over Beal, Lillard, Drummond or Barnes. Drafted Monk over Mitchell.

It's clear he misses frequently. Luckily he hit on Walker. I realize this is revisionist history, but that many blown lottery picks is inexcusable (1 for 12).

Ultimately I don’t love this but I don’t hate it like most of you either. In a vacuum, this trade kinda sucks but big picture says it will be good for us. We ditch Dwight and his attitude (addition by subtraction) add a veteran center, jettison some money this year and get under the luxury tax AND get a couple of picks that we can package in trades or give us an outside shot at drafting a good player. I know people don’t like to admit it but there have been plenty of good 2nd round picks and undrafted guys, we may miss and we may hit the lottery, who knows but it’s better than nothing.

Also, I’d bet the farm that Mozgov is not here for two years, at all, no matter what. He will either be traded next off season as an expiring contract or repackaged right away in the next few days but his butt will not be in Charlotte long barring some unforeseen explosion in his on court game. Even then we would likely use that as a way to get more for him in a trade as he is expiring.

This trade will be good for us in the longrun it just sucks because the optics on it as a stand-alone look pretty rough. This team got burdened with terrible contracts by Cho and no progress for our young players because of Cliff being a douchebag. We will sacrifice and be young and go through growing pains the next few years but I have faith that Mitch will do a much better job than Rich Cho ever could have and we will be back in the post season hunt.

    • He’s kind of overrated to be honest. Never really felt like a true #1 or elevated his play to become a guy the defense really has to worry about.
    • I'm going to be real, the reason that vote ended up so lop-sided by the end was directly due to my programming. So there's nothing tongue in cheek about it. Also I left PFF after the Collinsworth acquisition (didn't want to move to Cincy) but have stayed involved in analytics via backdoor channels, but I can absolutely say that the experience was eye-opening, not because those guys are unquestionable football savants and that I became one by proxy, but because the amount of information that becomes available outside of what the typical fan has access to is revelatory and also really drives home how much context is still being missed even with all of that information. You don't discover that you know everything, you discover how much you still can't know no matter how hard you try, hence my point about the NFL not being able to figure out what makes a QB good. There's a lot of AI work going into that now and even that only seems to further confuse things vs. actually enlighten the problem. In the professional realm teams don't really talk about quarterbacks as A strictly being better than B, but how A can potentially perform better than B given a specific context of C. Of course those contexts may be wider for A than B, but there's also contexts where B can outshine A, even with lesser talent surrounding them. So what good teams strive to do is ultimately define a process of how they want their entire team to operate under schematically, find players that fit that scheme, and hopefully find a guy whose skillset will be maximized running that scheme with those players. Where bad teams fall of the wagon is constantly shifting those schemes and chasing bad fits or fads vs. sticking with a core identity and developing it.
    • there is a 100 mile long list of NFL players and coaches going to bat and defending horrible play from teammates.
