Bad review for an old friend

It is entirely fair to question how much Jonathan Stewart has left in the tank, after he averaged a career-low 3.4 yards per carry with the Carolina Panthers last season. Nevertheless, general manager Dave Gettleman and the Giants signed Stewart to a two-year $6.8 million deal that includes $3.45 million guaranteed. This spring, Stewart looked more like a plodding veteran running back trying to hang on, than a back capable of shouldering a significant workload. If nothing else, Stewart should provide steady veteran leadership in a locker room that is in desperate need of it.

Grading the Giants runningbacks

Ouch.

Stewart might work out okay as a backup.  I certainly wish him the best.

But yeah, releasing him was likely the right call.

I think we all saw that writing on the wall, including JStew, but might as well run it out there and see if anyone will drop a million or two on another season. The G-men did, thanks to the G-man, and we're certainly none the worse off for it. Good luck to him and I hope he gets every penny of that contract before he rides off into the sunset.

Absolutely no reason to have ill will towards JStew. He was a great player, great teammate, great member of the community and a good guy all around.

I mean, obviously Stewart is at the end of his career and is no longer particularly productive.  What I don't understand is why some people seem so happy about that, the guy was a great RB for us for years.  I don't expect much from him in NY, but I certainly wish him well, and definitely would not be inclined to call our all-time rushing leader a "cast-off".  Just a weird negative attitude towards him from some Panthers fans.

He was the perfect back for us for years but he's done.  Can't believe anyone signed him for more than the minimum honestly. Could he have a big game or two in him?  Sure. Can he be an every down workhorse for an entire season?  Heck no.

I'm never happy about seeing a good player start to fade.

But yeah, it happens.

It wasn't meant as a shot to J-Stew but reading it back it does look pretty nasty. It was INTENDED to be a shot at Gettlemen. Zero hatred towards Stewart at all. He was great for us. I think we did jump out at the right time, however, and we likely got an upgrade with Anderson.

Some people just never seem to realize how bad the read options ruins a RB's ypc. Look at DWill when he left. I'm not saying Stew will have the same success, but he has a lot left, you'll see

Williams ypc in our read option from 2011-2014 was 4.35. His two seasons with Pittsburgh it was 4.0 ypc

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
