Norv Turner's play design

These people exist?

Shula was "creative." Now, saying that, he wasn't creative the way a really good musician or artist is creative. He was creative the way a guy who thinks he can outsmart decades of offensive experience is creative. His "creations" were occasionally brilliant (see the screen play to Fozzie against NE last year), but far more often they were monstrosities...like Frankenstein's monster.

Man, seeing these well executed play designs is a breath of fresh air. Did you see the blocking scheme on CMC's TD as well? It was sick. This is to all of those who said it was the "players not executing" when Shula was here. Good play designs and a good scheme matters. Now if only we got rid of Shula earlier we would already have a ring. This offense is about to blow up.

I was thinking pretty much this exact same thing.

I wonder if Ron's regretting sticking with Shula for so long?  IIRC it was a close shave about keeping Shula again this year.  One day Ron basically said he didn't anticipate any coaching shake up, then the next day he announced Shula was gone, saying he'd been thinking about it and at 2 in the morning (or something like that) he made the decision.

So far it's looking like a great move.

Let's get us a 'ship!

I believe you are right. I think Ron intended giving Shula another year, but knew he was on a short leash himself with the new ownership coming in and wised up and went to go get his old buddy Norv. People are in for a treat this season, just sit back and watch how a real OC does it! He's NEVER had a QB like Cam. Can't wait to watch this offense this year!

Agree 100%.

Ron will only change if/when forced by outside pressure.  Every time Rivera gets "comfortable", the team is the worse for it.

Ron:  I'm keeping Shula...I mean we almost had the damn trophy....yup I'm keeping him.

:phone rings:

Norv:  Yea, looked at the tape Ron, Mike has no idea what y'all have down there...I'd like to take a shot with you if you decide to make a change.

Ron:  He gone.

Norv offense is a huge upgrade over Shula . Crazy how we can run the ball so effectively with a worse offensive line

That is  not really setting the bar very high.  :)

I wasn't that thrilled with the hire of Turner.  IMO, he is, to a large extent, living off of past glory.  But I do agree we should be better on the offensive side this year due to getting rid of Shula.  And hopefully due to more talent.

I don't get it either. When on the hot seat, Ron is one hell of a coach. He's aggressive, doesn't settle for FGs, and just doesn't give a fug. But (like you said) as soon as he knows his job is secure, he turns into this conservative wuss. If he could just always have that mentality that his job is on the line at all times. Good news is, this is one of those years where he's on the "hot seat" so we should get riverboat Ron this year.

Stop lying dude, Ron turned this franchise into a consistent playoff team. Most of the issues where the GMs fault.

I think Tepper's personality is the kind that puts people who work for him on a "permanent hot seat" of sorts.

Richardson could be comfortable with mediocrity as long as he liked the people working for him. That's not Tepper, and the change could be a good thing for Rivera.

Yup..   Norv has me in mid season form already. ( shocking ) ..  I was on the couch,, then screaming with delight when MaCaffery broke that run for 70 yrds ,,   When was the last time we saw something like that and it wasn't Cam running for his life ..

It's been pretty well established that Shula had no idea how to use McCaffrey.

Norv...does.

Only a moron would say it was players not executing, but then again, there's also those same morons who said Norv was garbage, so.....oh well
