Haven’t even played a real game yet...good to see him look good, but let’s see him against the saints first

Has already flash some skillsets that other backups have already shown they don't have.. It's not to crazy to see the kid might be better than them already..smh

Honestly, in what qe've seen of him so far, I think this is true, and he should be the starter in TD's absence.  He has an innate ability get to the passer and just looks more explosive out there.  Mayo is solid, but to me, he is just a guy...  he is kind of like the same player as Dan Connor, Adam Seward, and other late round MLBs we've usually had in the past...  he steps in and plays, and while he isn't neccessarily a liability, he isn't standing out either.  Carter has potential to be more.  I think Andre Smith does too, and the addition of Carter and Smith likely knock guys like Jacobs off the 53.

Yes, he can get to the QB . . . but seriously, that's not something we really ask our LB's to do with any sort of regularity.  That's something a 34 OLB does.  This is why everyone expected him to go to a 34 team.

We need someone who can play the edge on the run and cover a TE / RB in the pass game.

I will give you the fact that Mayo is solid, but don't tell me that he has the upside of Carter because it already would have showed. Carter is the more gifted athlete, and though I might not start him right now, because I believe it's still obvious that he's making the transition, I can easily see the argument for him to get out there sooner rather than later.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
