McCaffrey doubters

We are in the Roids era. Cmc used his lateral moves to avoid big hits. Bigger guys like  stewart and others are bigger targets and will get hurt more. Tiki barber was smaller than cmc and wS durable He played fairly recently as is mccoy

I hope you're right. It's actually not the 320 lb DTs that frighten me, it's the 240 lb LB who runs just as fast as CMC...or the 220 lb safety...you can't dodge what you don't see coming. I certainly hope he's durable, but we don't really know that yet.

We had a contingent of people last year who were fairly negative about the McCaffrey pick, and likewise about his ability to be a feature back in the NFL.

McCaffrey has certainly looked good this preseason. He's been used a lot, and the general expectation is that Norv Turner understands how to do that where our previous OC didn't.

Of course, as anybody who's watched football for a while knows, preseason can be deceiving.

So my question would be who among our number still doubts or questions that McCaffrey will be an effective running back this year. If so, why?

I'd also like to hear from anyone who was a doubter or a critic last year but is on board with the hype train now. What changed your mind?

I’ll say he will have more receiving yards than rushing.

those concerns are the same for any RB.

I was his biggest critic. And I stand by my claim.. He doesn’t,well didn’t display the between the tackle running ability or size of a top 10 back. If you go through the last few years and look at the backs who went to 10 CMC looks nothing like them, and still isn’t in there league as far as running between the tackles and being an everydown back.

But saying that his versatility and ablity to line up else where on pass downs dwarfs all of them. I always felt he was a good football player, but only if u have he luxary of not needing him to be a everydown grinder up the gut. Are my douts gone? Not really this is preseason, no one is scheming and the best defenders aren’t likely to be playing much(peppers, Khalil Mack and so on). Results have been very good and I’m impressed at his play thus far.

Of course, but that's irrelevant to my point. CMC hasn't proven to be durable under a heavy NFL workload. I certainly hope he is, but it's not a foregone conclusion. A durable NFL RB takes those hits repeatedly and keeps going. We'll see if that's the case with CMC. Of course, one thing that aids in this regard are the new safety rules. Hopefully CMC isn't "too young" to get those calls.

I have my fears that we will break him. The whole 25-30 touches a game should concern everybody here.

I have no desire to see Him take a pounding in games when we have a lead or are trying to burn clock. I’d much rather see CJ or Cap get those carries.

I certainly was a doubter. The dude has proven me wrong. His extra strength and weight is making a huge difference in his run game this year. Last year was kind of what I feared with him and I couldn't be happier that he made the changes because his total game is awesome now.

As many people said I just thought we reached to high at #8 for him especially when you look at how well Kamara, Hunt, and Cook are doing but I’m very satisfied that we have Mccaffery...

The Kamara comparison got brought up pretty frequently.

    • WR: Nico, Woods, Tank (R) TE: Schultz OL: Tunsil/Howard/Deiter/Mason/Fant vs. WR: Chark, Thielen, Mingo (R) TE: Hurst OL: Icky/Zavala (R)/Bozeman/Jensen (R)/Moton   Panthers' had the better OL before losing BC week 1 and AC week 4 which is kind of ironic considering how in the following year DB went down in W1 and Shaq in W4 resulting in the defense going all to Hell. CJ has done amazing in Houston, but he also wasn't asked to carry Zavala, Jensen, Mingo, Hurst, and Chark as a rookie.
    • Past 5 seasons, IMO CJ Stroud and Joe Burrow are the 2 best young QBs that have emerged in the league in that window.  They also didn’t need vets to be their primary pass catchers.  They helped fellow youngsters be great at WR.   almost all the other young QBs have been paired up with vets in their top options….and haven’t been as promising.  so it isn’t Madden.  But the league hasn’t played out as you suggest it does.   Good QBs make others around them better.
    • In 2023 their roster wasn’t stacked. They nailed the poo out of the 2023 draft and since they knew Davis Mills wasn’t the guy, they tanked properly to get pick 2. They also took Cleveland’s ridiculous offer for Watson unlike us with Burns. Houston received enough draft capital to jump up to 3 while picking up the right guys in Anderson and Stroud. The Texans were not stacked or better than us in 2023. They had 11 total wins from 2020 to 2022. They didn’t have a terrible front office so they made sure they got their QB of the future while tanking well and getting more draft picks. They are a textbook study of what we should have done in 2022/2023 offseason even though people in here still think tanking is a bad word and our culture would be bad if we were the Texans. We literally had the chance to be the Texans right now and fuged it up.
