I read this today:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/24622561/indianapolis-colts-qb-andrew-luck-admits-injuring-shoulder-snowboarding

Quote

As Andrew Luck prepares to play his first NFL regular-season game since 2016, the Indianapolis Colts quarterback has acknowledged a second shoulder injury he suffered while snowboarding during the 2015-16 offseason.

Luck told NFL Network in a story published Sunday that he sprained the AC joint in his throwing shoulder in a snowboarding accident in Colorado.

Now replace "Andrew Luck" with "Cam Newton" and "Indianapolis Colts" with "Carolina Panthers" and think of the reaction.

My prediction?  Front page news on all sports sites condemning Newton for being foolish and careless and exacerbating an existing injury as well as condemnation for the Panthers organization for burying the news of the second injury.

As compared to the collective yawn that Golden Boy is getting.

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
