Let’s see:

uncharacteristic late play calls (under Norv)

speculation from the announcers that maybe there was a problem with Cam’s helmet speaker

Shula and Gettleman were in the building

Was anyone keeping an eye on DG?

One thing I have noticed whenever Cam gets a first down running, we scramble to get the next play off.

Listen, I have no problem with Cam getting the crowd Hyped up and doing a first down point. The act does not offend me in the slightest. I'm a firm believer in the idea of "if you don't like it, stop him"

But the fact that he is the person that is responsible for calling the plays, and that his celebration delays information from being relayed to the rest of the team bothers me. It takes him 5-10 seconds to swag on the guys, then another 5-10 to get back to the huddle to relay the next play. That's time we don't get back for the next playcall. If he can reign the point to 5 seconds max, it wouldn't be an issue, but sometimes he lingers. Speed up the swag.

This is exactly what I’ve been trying to say, thank you.  It’s after any big play, celebrations screw us on the following snap.  This isn’t new, been happening for years.

I honestly don't know who fault it is. No one seems upset except Olsen when he is in the game when the plays take forever to come in.  I think its on Cam.  Just my gut.  Sometimes OC

Cam has admitted in the past that his huddles tend to be a mess and that Greg has to correct things a lot. Here is a snippet from an interview awhile back. Not sure if this is still the case but the popular belief that was driven home around here (*cough* Igo) was that it was 100% Shula. Not sure that was always the case.

  • TE Greg Olsen -- “The Overseer ... He listens to the play, like, ‘No, no, no, no, that’s not right. It can’t be even. It has to be odd. I can’t zoom. I can’t motion that way because if I ... no, no, no Cam, that’s not right.'"

  • QB Newton -- “I’m Wrong ... half the time when I’m saying a play, I’m wrong and those guys, they fix it. It’s like my auto correct. You know when you’re on word document. They’re the red lining."

When Samuel and Byrd got to play last year they looked really good beforeinjury. Torrey Smith coming in here and snatching a starting spot easy is just laughable. The guy has been a role player his entire career, great guy but just a role player.

Smith has been a starter for the past 7 years not a role player.  Prior to this season he played 108 games and started 100 of them.

Guess what, he didn't start yesterday.

It was pretty vanilla yesterday.  No real imagination or creativity.  Plays coming in late.  Obvious calls in obvious down and distance situations.

And that last Run with McCaffrey was one of the worst calls i have ever seen.  I literally thought Norv lost us the game with that call cause i wasn't sure CMAC got the first down and we would not have been able to spike the ball to bring Graham on the field.  Speaking of McCaffrey it just seemed like they were content on running him right up the gut all day even though the Giants seemed to tighten up those lanes as the game went on.  Where was a screen or swing pass.  I was left very underwhelmed by Turner yesterday but it's just one game.

he looked alot like Shula yesterday while playing against Shula on the other side, maybe it was a dedication.

Maybe some of the things people blame Shula for really didn't fall on Shula. It's possible ya know.

I know we've speculated before about this, but even the announcers brought it up yesterday on the TV broadcast.  The play clock seems to be in a weird place.  Is it just not very visible to the players from certain parts of the field?  It seemed both teams struggled with time management yesterday.

Regardless of stadium design, I'm pretty sure play clock locations are league mandated.

Doesn't happen every game. Does not happen as often on the road. When they get off, everything is fine but when there is an issue its Cam. Cam has been doing the same celebration after he runs for a first pretty much his entire career. Some other issues or a combination of Cam and the OC. Shula is a Norv protege. ......Nevermind all of that, its gotta be the celebrations!

So this must be the case into perpetuity, right?

Watching this game front row yesterday, I could have swore Shula showed up in the wrong box. Otherwise, I think this was Rivera's gameplan (which was bad) and norv's play selection for that gameplan (which was bad). Still no deep passes, still Torrey Smith, and then bubble screens and reverses to the two speedsters. Forcing balls to Ian Thomas didn't help either. Yesterday solidified that we are far from a Super Bowl contender and don't have poo for the Rams. Should have been a statement game, but we played Carolina Panther Football, which has led us to a now .500 franchise record.

Look, I don't know what to tell you guys, but this is Norv. Remember him and Rivera coached together in San Diego, these are two guys cut from the same cloth. If you were expecting us to start throwing it all over with a lead then I hope this was a wake up call. The Chargers under Norv had Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates, LaDainian Tomlinson, Vincent Jackson, and Malcom Floyd. Yet you could fuging count on feckless running plays on 2nd and 10 in situations where you really needed points, not practicing your run blocking against an 8 man front. The only time you ever truly saw Norv unleashed was down 2+ scores late in the fourth quarter and he had no choice. This is how these guys approach the game of football, love it or leave it.

Oh and there were a ton of late play calls and delay of game penalties too. I watched almost every single Chargers/Norv game because of Rivers, this is all deja vu to me.

They also mentioned that there were some possible problems with electronic communications during the game, with Pam Oliver's mike going in and out to the point where they just quit trying to get her into the broadcast.

Maybe that had something to do with it.
