We had the slowest paced offense in 2017, currently tied for 4th slowest this season

I didn't bother to click the link. It's pointless.

I don't want a fast passed offense, unless we have to score.

You don't control a game with a face paced offense.

Well, you do, but defense has to be able to stop the other team. That creates separation in the score real quick and forces the other team to be one dimensional. Outside of Dallas, we haven't been able to stop anybody yet, so for now, I'd say we are good with a slower tempo. Don't get me wrong though, we have the fire power to light up the scoreboard quickly if we wanted to

Hence me using the term "defense is a good thing", which you conveniently didn't mark bold.

You're utterly delusional if you think that running the ball and playing defense in today's NFL is a winning formula.  The I-formation don't work like it used to buddy.  Defenses can stop that in their sleep - then they send they're 5 receiver sets out and massacre you.

We’ve made the playoffs in how many of the years Ron has been coach...

Yep look at Chip Kelly's historic fast paced offense and how long that lasted here...

Yup. Being capable of scoring fast, and wanting to do so all game long, are two completely animals.

He spoke of putting pressure on opposing teams, nothing does that more, than a team that can play keep away, while scoring.

I'm so glad we didn't have to go through that.  Hurrying up to the line looking around like Meerkats for two seconds, run a play, rinse and repeat.  In the NFL, Kelly's defenses were gassed by the middle of the third quarter.  If his offense wasn't clicking the defense had to get rest in two minute intervals.  He literally could go three and out in a minute and ten seconds.

Remind me... why was it we weren't able to come back against the Falcons?  Maybe something to do with taking 22 seconds to get off a play while we were running our "hurry-up"...?

Maybe you’re right and it was the 22 seconds it took to get off a play. I’d like to think it was our run defense, inability of our defense to get off the field on third down, and a fluke interception.

Interesting that a majority of the debate is that Rivera and Norv want the offense to use up all the clock and Cam is a victim. The elephant in the room to me is that the slowness appears to be by Cam's desire not Rivera's.  How many times does he waste 5 seconds signaling a first down. Then he walks back to the huddle. Then he seems to take time slowly coming out of the huddle and saunters up to the line. Honestly he never seems to be in a hurry. Remember his on field mike cuts off at 15 seconds so you can always assume that he has the play by then. Most likely by 20 seconds. Then he admitted he often needs help with the play call which takes more time. Seems to me that he takes up the whole time he has by his design and pace not because he is told to slow it down.

This discussion doesn't include times when we hurry up like the 2 min drill or when we are milking time off the clock at the end of the game purposefully.

Maybe it is me but I have intentionally watched the clock and Newton's actions and he seems to rarely be in a hurry.

So many fans have no concept of basic football principles.

You beat good teams with great offenses, by keeping their offense on the sideline. How do you do that?? With time eating, long drives that score points.

The best defense, is an offense that can sustain drives, while putting points on the scoreboard. It's what you want, especially if the defense is struggling. Even if the defense was elite, you'd want to do the same thing, to maximize winning.

Patriots have five Super Bowls with that type of Offense. LOL. Wait, no they don't. Eagles got one with that type of offense though. Oh wait, no they didn't. The best two teams from both Conferences have that type of offense. Oh wait, no they don't.

Dude, that ain't no lie.  He's never in a hurry unless it's the end of the game.

    • Personally I think he's a nightmare to cover I think linebackers generally aren't fast enough to keep up with him in coverage and cornerbacks don't have the strength to tackle him one-on-one in physically bring them down which would normally lead to a broken tackle or a nasty stiff arm or just bully ball play sure you could find a receiver with comparable speed like Cooper but he's faster than Cooper sure you can find a wide receiver that is the same size but he's probably More powerful than them and a better blocker.  The size speed athleticism package that he is in is completely unique it's easier to say I'd rather have just a big blocker because we've never seen this type of profile before I'm a risk taker I think you would be God blessed if this was there at 19 I think if you can get a guy that's a tight end who immediately becomes the fastest guy on your offense and at the same time that third wide receiver that can stretch and burn defenses over the top that's the perfect what the Panthers need type weapon.
    • I think you're under selling Sadiq. They are two different players in terms of how they win. Loveland is 2 inches taller maybe 5-6 pounds heavier. Comparing his speed to sadiq.. well your comparing a 4.7 guy to a 4.3 guy I'm seeing a guy that can take a bubble screen from the tight end position and turn it into a house call. I'm not saying the guy is a certified home run pick but I don't think there's really a president's for a comparison for this kind of athlete. It's easy to say this doesn't look like Warren or Loveland because we haven't seen guys that fit this profile The closest you might be able to get is Vernon Davis.  He's not as sure far as those guys were but at 19 I think almost everybody is going to have some warts and he's a lottery ticket of could be top 10 in the draft player or could fail I am more of a risk taker I think he fits the athletic profile that could be a homerun, like I said he's almost 40 lb bigger than Cooper and like 4-5 in taller than Cooper so and he's faster. So whatever you think Cooper gives you I think he does that and more. If you want to go with one of the office alignment I can understand that as well but for value as a receiving threat I don't think there's a bigger value at number 19.
