Not ideal for our defense

This is on the DL, it's not even a question.  There are really only two possibilities.

1.  Eric Washington isn't a very good DC.

2.  Whoever is coaching the DL now is terrible.

I would add a 3rd alternative;

3. The group is just not good enough to get the job done.  Age and inexperience has caught up to them.

I was honestly very concerned about the age on the D-Line before even training camp.

NFL is a young mans game for a reason, if you were expecting Peppers to put up 10+ sacks again you are expecting way too much.

I think Peppers is done. I think Addison is a decent player but he hit his high point already and will now age down. KK had a great year to get paid but has been inconsistent otherwise. Butler is a bust. Obada is in a similar boat to Addison, meaning he has promise and drive but not a very high ceiling when you consider the time it’ll take him to grow and his age by the time he gets there. Poe is ok but isn’t a d-line centerpiece.

the D-line just isn’t as great as they get credit for. We haven’t really developed much talent there at all in years. It’s all reputation. What talent was there is aging and is being coached by someone not that great and the DC is new and is struggling.

we really need a marquee pass rusher DE to change this team.

Before training camp 2018?  Ha.  This D hasn’t been elite since the Ray Rice video came out and the Panthers took it up the poop shoot without lube by giving up 37 and 38 points to the Steelers and Ravens in consecutive weeks in 2014...without a player that had earned the FRANCHISE TAG by virtue of his on field and locker room presence.

I said the exact same thing in off season on here but i was told the D line would be fine, led league in sacks last year. Blah blah blah nothing to worry about.

Yep, a quiet problem that has been building for some time IMO.

Yeah, since the Rice video came out and the Panthers became pussycats.

    • He was so much fun to watch as a player but is a prototypical example of the old "never meet your heroes" adage. Great player, not a great guy.
    • Look.... if us BY "haters" give credit about his GWDs...... Will the BY stans also have honest discussion about the 55minutes before the last 5 in which BY has put up 9/20 for 78 yards 0 TDs???
    • The way they are handling now is how they should have handled it from the start instead of that you get a series, you a get a series. Let Chuba spell until he had some of his step back.  We definitely could have put a better showing against Buffalo and their weak run defense had we employed the same game plan we did against Green Bay. Saints were determined to stop the run and make Bryce beat them, Atlanta had similar plan and the coaches and Bryce were able to respond.  Rico although didnt have the best rushing game was vital in the passing game and his catch and run help get us into the redzone there at the end of regulation probably should have been a touchdown that out of bounds was a judgement call it wasn't conclusive and thus should have went with the original call on the field.  Roco brings that dawg to the offense that it shorely lacked up until Miami game. Interesting it was his call that help seal the win for us, glad the coaches were listening. Hope they can get a deal done and run it back next year.
