City can't afford it. I really hope the city never considers this an option either. It's sunk cost. The return is mundane.

Before you reply - did you know that the Miami Marlins lose $40 million per year in operating cost?

How do you think Charlotte would do when we can barely fill the Knights games even when we offered $2 beers?

Also, based on the agreement, we as tax payers would have to cover it.

This really does not have anything to do with the city but everything to do with the owners.  Just because Tepper owns the Panthers does not mean he could go out and buy the Clippers, and leave them in LA.  It may be easier and more cost effective to have them all in one city but it does not have to be based in the same city.

The only thing you are proving here is that if we are number 1 at filling the stands, then people don't really go to any of these baseball games.

You are basically saying we are the tallest midget.

What are you talking about? I was replying to someone saying they don't understand why we don't have a pro baseball team.

I don't expect an objective opinion from someone who admits to not liking baseball. I didn't get one, either.

Those MLB TV contracts must be MASSIVE. Not a baseball fan in the least but seems like every time I'm flippinv through the channels and happen across one the stands are straight up deserted.

Same issue the NBA has. Too many meaningless games.

NFL finally ditches cross-ownership policy

This after David Tepper had expressed interest in bringing a Major League Soccer team to Charlotte.

Hmmmmm...

The rule only prevented an NFL owner from owning a sports franchise in another market that has an NFL team. Wouldn’t have affected an MLS team in Charlotte. What this does is make it possible for someone like Steve Ballmer who owns the Clippers to buy the Seahawks.

Soccer is on the rise, yes. More popular than most sports, absolutely not in any way, shape or form.

It's probably 4th right now after football, basketball and baseball. Now I don't think MLS has passed the NHL but if you figure in the European leagues it has passed hockey. That is pretty significant and MLS is only getting more and more popular.

The MLS is insanely popular in select markets. Which is great, but it doesn't immediately portend that expansion to 25-30 franchises equals major national renown.
