Game 1: Hornets (0-0) vs. Bucks (0-0)

While we had a chance to win it was obvious that we were outplayed for three quarters.

I guess we can take solace in the fact that the Bucks will more than likely be a top six seed in the east but we sure have a long way to go. For starters, the defense needs a lot of work.

Take Kemba away and this team is easily the  worst in the NBA. I laugh at people who don’t think Kemba is a star, the Hornets would be lucky to win 15 games without him.

As far as things I liked:

Kemba Walker’s total game: He finished with 41 points (52%, 54% from three), 4 assists, 2 rebounds and, 2 steals.

Tony Parker’s role: Tony was the second best player on the Hornets tonight (in my opinion) and is easily one of the best backup point guards we have had. He brought a lot of leadership tonight and he even took it upon himself to talk with Kemba on the way off the court. Tony finished with 8 points (50%), 7 assists, and 3 rebounds. He would have had at least two more assists if the Hornets big men could catch his passes.

Kidd-Gilchrist at the 4/5: MKG can play the 4/5 position when we go small because of his physicality. In my opinion this is the only way he’ll be able to stick here. MKG finished with 10 points (50%), 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block

The Lack of Turnovers: The Hornets only committed 11 turnovers and that gave them a chance to win the game

Frank Kaminsky not playing: Coach JB sat Frank right where he belongs, on the bench.

Things I didn’t like:

Batum and Williams’ Offense: Another horrible shooting night for Batum. Sure he played some defense but he’s also getting paid $120 million dollars. Williams couldn’t make a shot either and when two of your starters combine for 4/15 you aren’t going to win many games.

Jeremy Lamb’s Role: Lamb did not look comfortable starting and his entire game suffered. Lamb may be better pegged as a sixth man with Monk starting.

Miles Bridges’ Timidity : I understand that he’s a rookie but he wasn’t involved in any capacity on the offensive end taking just one shot. If everyone else is missing he needs to be aggresive.

Team Rebounding: We were obliterated on the glass. Most of these guys sat and watched Dwight rebound last year, we need more effort from everyone this year.

A few other notes:

Monk looked solid tonight and his shot will be huge for this team going forward.

Hernangomez may earns some starts with his solid play. Zeller was pretty invisible while on the floor and it’s not that he was bad, Hernangomez was just better.

Just now, chknwing said:

new coach, same lame ass starting lineup.  Monk needs to be starting.  Bridges needs more minutes.

More minutes for Bridges wouldnt have mattered, he wasn’t even looking for his shot.

Once he got out there with Kemba, Parker, Monk, etc. he became timid. It’s not the same as jacking up shots with Kaminsky, Graham, Bacon, and Macura on the floor.

Its going to take some time for him to find his place in the offense.
