Efe Obada and next years draft.

This guy needs to be in our future plans even if he doesn"t show out much more this year then one big game. Hopefully they go heavy in the draft for passrushers (two at least.)

With some experience he has a real chance. The defensive end position needs to be retooled. Take the two best ends that fall to us in the draft and add Obada. Don't think we will have the funds for a quality FA.

Efe has some learning but he never played the sport until 4 years ago. His pressure ability must stay here. 2 Qb hits last game. He is getting there to impact plays. Total QB hits the last 4 games he should have the most.  I would like to see him have more playtime vs Wes Horton to grow.

TBF, we've gotten good pressure on the QB the last couple games. Overall the front seven has done a better job of collapsing the pocket and getting in the backfield. Yeah, defensive end is a need but we also gonna need a linebacker because Mayo just isn't very good. Even when Luke tells him exactly what to do he still gets beat. Still need to replace Mike Adams but if we sign Reid long term then I think we can figure out the other safety spot.

Honestly our biggest need might be the best interior lineman left in the draft, defense or offense, we need to be better at the point of attack on both sides of the ball.

Between Obada and Haynes I'm not as down on the future of the unit as I was, but if we can land one of the top pass rushers in the first round I cannot think of any other position to take instead.

I lied. I could see the argument for a perennial All Pro center.

Well said. Although an argument could be made for signing a Safety if there is a can't miss prospect on the board when we pick. We could use a true ball hawk on the back end. It would be a tremendous boost to our secondary to pair him with Eric Reid.

At least we know we don't need to draft QB, RB, WR, LB, or TE in the first round next year. :)

I agree. Dude has one big game and everyone thinks he's the next Reggie White. We need to draft one and sign one. However, Addison has been alright this year. Also need to cut Poe after this year, find another DT. Needs to be an overall hog molly offseason.

Well Davis is leaving and Hurney loves linebackers so it's not out of the question we take one in the first.

Luke will still be starting at MLB. I'm assuming Shaq will be around as well. "IF" Davis does retire (and I'm not convinced he will) that will leave a hole at one of the OLB spots. The previously mentioned players are both former #1 choices. I don't know if Carolina can justify a 3rd #1 pick at LB based on the needs of our team. Then again like you mentioned in your post...Marty loves LB's.  If the next Von Miller or Kalil Mack is on the board when we pick (we need more pass rushers) or there's a LB capable of covering TE's ( a must in today's game) picking a LB may not be such a bad thing.

Whoever we draft at #1 needs to be an impact player form day one, especially if its on the defensive side of the ball.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
