Matching up in the secondary against the Steelers+Wr thoughts

I would love to see what the plan is here. Do we toss the young guy(Jackson) at AB right out the gate? Or do we let Bradberry continue to match up with the other teams number one? I think personally, this would be a great time to let Jackson find out who he is. Sink or swim vs The best WR in the NFL and he is the better fit because of Brown's speed as well. Either way the second corner will have his hands full because JuJu-Smith is no Slouch either. More and More tho it is becoming obvious that teams are avoiding Jackson and going after Bradberry. I just want to know is this the game Ron and company make it official that Jackson is our number 1 CB. There is no shame having a rookie become your number 1 CB,Ward comes to mind for the Browns right now. This holding rookies back because they are rookies needs to stop before it costs us games. Like at this point is there any reason Funchess,Smith, and Wright should be ahead of Moore and Samuel? Let's stop the young guy bias and go for the Jugular.

This isnt a game to experiment, we know what works. Everyone is scared of Pitt but they arent the #1 offense, we just played the #1 offense. So I want alot of press coverage, Bradberry was great on Evans with it. Our problem last week was when tampa adjusted to rub routes, our adjustment to zone didnt work. Need a better counter adjustment.

Did we really just play the number 1 offense? Nobody feared or respected the Bucs as the number 1 offense,I never had a dout in my mind that they would step on a Grenade and explode. The Bucs being the number one offense discredits teams like the Rams and Saints plus Pitt whom I think have Vastly better offenses.

Speed vs speed.  Leave Bradberry on AB and put DJax on JuJu.  This worked well against the Bucs and I don't see Ron and co. changing that formula, especially on a short week.

AB is an entirely different kind of WR than Evans. Bradberry is awesome against guys like Evans, Julio and AJ Green. He can struggle a lot against guys like OBJ and AB. I'm tempted to say put Bradberry against JuJu and Donte on AB but that might be putting way too much on a rookie's plate. Though if anyone has the balls to take that assignment it's Jackson.

Maybe just double AB with Bradberry and a safety then Jackson on an island against JuJu.

Bradberry on Brown (with safety help) and Jackson on Ju-Ju.  Vance McDonald will be a threat simply b/c we haven't matched up well on TE's.  Connor playing well... Steelers offense is very formidable.

This game will be tough, and we need our offense ready to put up 30+ points.  Steelers defense has improved since the start of the year, but there's no reason to think we can't or won't have success moving the ball.  Need to score TD's when we get in the red zone.

I won't be disheartened if we lose, b/c going to Pittsburgh on a short week is arguably the toughest venue we have to play this year outside of maybe going to the Superdome, but we do need a win if we are going to catch the Saints for the division

This is the conclusion I have come to. Size and length and physicality aren't as big against guys like OBJ and AB and Bradberry was struggling. As Cocky(in a good way) as Jackson is, he probably wants the matchup. I say give it to him or atleast be open to the idea of mixing it up and giving them both shots at him and see what works best.

Numbers dont lie, Tampa is #1 scoring and #1 passing yards

Numbers lie all the time. On paper they are the number 1 passing offense, but in reality they just got a 40 burger hung on them by the not number 1 offense. The so call number one offense just benched their starting qb for their backup QB(which isn't something you do with the best offense in the league) and they are sitting pretty at 3-5. That is not the most feared offense in the league.

1st off that #1 #2 title is so overatted. 2ndly Donte Jackson already knows what he’s capable of.. with that being said Donte Jackson should match up on AB because he’s the best match 1on1 from a physical aspect.. Bradberry can shut down juju & munnerlyn & elder should rotate at the nickel..

Our guys just gotta make every tackle and play fundamental football. Will be hard with that grass there (worst football field conditions). Brown and Juju will get the ball, it's just up to our guys to make the plays. Connor is another worry.

If your going Speed vs Speed your going Jackson on AB

I think the best matchup is Jackson on AB and Bradberry on JuJu

Ab is one of the most explosive athletes out WR.  Prior to the Cheetah in KC broke out last year.  AB was known as one of the most explosive playmakers in the league.

https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/nfl-pittsburgh-steelers-news/2016/5/24/11757272/pittsburgh-steelers-wr-antonio-brown-improves-his-40-yard-dash-time-6

You put Jackson on him with Reid helping over the top like we saw a Lot last week with him vs Tampa

JuJu is the bigger slower one of the 2 and is just Solid with good fundamentals.  Thats whk your throwing Bradberry on.  After watching him vs Green and Evans, he should take JuJu out of the game himself.  Then the Jackson with Reid help should be just enough to slow AB down just enough.

    • Let's be completely honest about this... Our WR room is AT and a bunch of question marks. Thielen is the only guy we know who knows the route tree completely, understands play calls and can regularly get open/beat close coverage when necessary. He's long in the tooth, isn't the speediest guy on the field but he plays like a pro, starting level wide receiver. Xavier, last season looked great at first, but man he kind of petered out down the stretch and would disappear in a number of games. He wasn't reliable on routes or getting open and where he was supposed to be a king at contested catches, he often looked a bit intimidated. I'm not saying he's a washout by any means. Anyone with his size, speed and catch radius could make it big in the NFL, but can he do it? He'll need to show more than he did in the preseason before we can really rely on him as a WR1 or WR2.  Coker was a revelation last season, he really played way above his (non)draft status and flashed multiple times in games and was a steady performer. What we need to find out, though, is whether he was benefiting from being an unknown that wasn't getting maximum effort from opposing DBs or if he was just outworking and outhustling everyone on the field. We should find out this season. We sure as hell didn't find out much in the pre-season (from him or any receiver or QB for that matter). He's still a question mark, but I think he has the look of the real deal. He might be this generation's next Thielen. Now, let's talk about Tet. High first round draft pick, first true WR off the board this year. Stellar career out west in college. Has the swagger of the WR1. And man, y'all are going to get mad about this but... he comes across as a mook. And in the pre-season he performed, well, not so great against poor opposition of second and third stringers. Yeah, he caught that one moonshot ball in the first game but really, nothing else lighting the place up. Rookie endzone drop in that game, too. He's still young and adjusting, I'm sure, but I was hoping to see something of a breakthrough kind of guy. I'm still looking. Hunter Renfro? Gosh, I hope he can make the team and make a comeback to his old form. It would be such a great story. But maybe neither one of those happens. We won't know until Tuesday and then, if he makes it past there it could be weeks. So, TL;DR: AT is all we can bank on right now. We couldn't afford to let him go considering the number of unknowns we'd be throwing out there for our QB, who himself is still an unknown. One thing to add: Our receivers coaching group has their work cut out for them. I hope they are up to the task, but the pre-season gave me little reason to believe in them. And I really need something to believe in here in Carolina.
    • Same I think Randsom is a baller..... hopefully we don't have to suffer through 4-8 games of Scott blowing azz to get him on the feild.
    • Linebacker is the biggest need - I hope we figure out a way to address it. Krys Barnes is the only one who even moderately flashed.  Super nervous about Trevin/Rozeboom as a duo (Still like Trevin) I'd be excited if we had a better vet to mentor Trevin.  Or a better younger guy to support Rozeboom.  They just don't fit well and it may be a big problem against the run, even with our DL much improved.
