Why Rivera is almost certainly not going to fire a coordinator during the season

It goes against his mindset of keeping the same guys in December that you had in July.

Whether it's noble or not, Rivera takes pride in not ditching a guy (coach or player) based off of one game, or even a series of games, while we're still on the field. It's 50-50 to me if Washington is back after this year, but for the people expecting him to be fired soon -- it'd be a big surprise and would mark a change in philosophy for Rivera.

All that aside, the Panthers have fired a coordinator mid-season, what, once? I know we have a new owner but Tepper isn't going to call Rivera and say "it's you or Washington."

Reminds me of John Fox...2 defensive head coaches, very conservative,  never fired a coordinator mid-season...play to lose...very eerily similar...anybody else see the similarities?  Oh yes, hired by a loser owner, JR.

we should remember we replaced our DC,OC,ST coord. & LB coach & Secondary coach & DL coach Maybe we got spoiled with McDermott & Wilks so I wouldn't fire a Coord. in the middle of the yr BUT I would Fire the DL coach Brady Hoke he was bad when he worked for the Tenn Vols & this was Ron can tell Washington to work on the DL & get the front 7 fixed & Ron can help/do the DC duties & Washington keeps the title & learns

I meant to add the DL has regressed to the point that they are useless DT pressure is gone & DE only get Pressure when the OL messes up

I appreciate Ron's loyalty, but if he can't see that there absolutely needs to be a change at DC then Tepper might start thinking that there needs to be a change at HC.

Yeah this is the thing, Tepper is taking a hands off approach this year to evaluate so he won't push for anyone to be fired... he's just sitting back and watching what kind of decisions are made.

Which is exactly why he needs to go, only wants to employ his buddies and not the best coach for the job and doesn't hold them accountable either. Shula was here way to long before he decided to let him go. Oh yeah, he knew his job was the line this season.....Figures

Washington is a guy Rivera has talked about like a protege. Hard to imagine him dumping him midseason.

That decision would likely have to come from higher up than Rivera.

I don't remember a time Rivera fired anyone. Even Shula was forced.

Anyone can see though Rivera knows its a evaluation year. I totally expect us to blow out the lions. I still can't help to feel though it will be short lived and No and ATL will sweep us because they have the offense and defense power just like Pitt. I feel our defense will be about 25 or 30th at the end of the year.

    • Taking only players from the sheet that are realistically available in or after the listed round, I’d like… 1st: DT Caleb Banks (Styles not realistic) 2nd: LB Jacob Rodriguez 3rd: OT Best available from Bowry, Barber, and Casey 4th: CB Daylen Everette 5th: S Jalen Huskey 6th: RB Adam Randall 7th: IOL Best available from Lemieux, Dawkins, Leausa, and Brose   I know nothing about some of the players listed, but it seems like that would be the best way it could fall for now. I’m sure the list of who we meet will change a ton, and there will also be players we don’t meet with to keep quiet. I’d love to pick up Randall in the late rounds.
    • Not what I said. They know within the building why we aren't utilizing TEs more. If the rumors were true that we were seriously pursuing a couple of decent receiving TEs that strongly points toward a lack of quality receiving TEs currently on the roster. Does that mean we consider drafting one at 19? I don't know, but it wouldn't shock me and if we did there's only one guy it would be. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see TE drafting somewhere in the first three rounds.
    • Yeah, I don’t know. Tepper was behind the Bryce selection. Behind firings and hiring over his lack of development.  He doesn’t have to literally tell them their hands are tied for them to know this. It is in the air constantly. The Canales Bryce play calling was even portrayed by more than one person as Canales failing Bryce, instead of Bryce being responsible for his own performance (except when he does well, then it is all him). Now they have an extra coach in, to help the new OC get results from this QB.  The atmosphere is not welcoming to prototypical young QBs that have talent. You get Jake Plummer types or old vets. I think we are stuck.
