Is Jadeveon Clowney a realistic target in FA?

Well if we want a pass rush we have to stop being scared of big contracts unless we want to behave like Gruden and flush your best every time they cry.

How often do those guys that get those monster contracts pan out? Very rarely. Goal is to play for a big contract, not to show you deserve the one you got.

DL needs retooling, but not for the at least $16 mil/ year it's going to cost to get him. Some team will pay it and then have buyers remorse for the next 3 years.

What type of contract you expect him to get?

At least 12 a year.  The Texans already set his market by executing his 5th year option.  Had they thought they could get him for less, they would have negotiated a contract.

Try $16/year. That's about the average of the 5 highest paid 43 DEs in the league and the hope that has always surrounded that guy will drive the price up there.

So what position(s) should we cripple to pay that?

DE is the most important position in today's game. If we have to cripple at another position so be it. Pass rush is what beats the elite teams in today's NFL. We have to address that position this offseason.

His production has been on par for a big contract, dude generates pressure and plays the run pretty good. I wouldn’t mind going after him but I’m on the trade up and get a de train if we bottom out and end up with a top 10 pick for bosa,AND sign a guy like clowney. That’s the key to getting this team back on track imo

That’s true,.. but we’ve seen what a real pass rush does,. Dallas is surviving this year without anything else because of it,.. and now after they make a Herculean balls trade for Amari,.. they actually have a team.

if we can get a Pep or a Clowney in the draft that would be awesome.

we only have one 1st rounder though,.. and we need more

As a team we don’t have the luxury of praying a drafted de is the next Khalil Mack etc, this division is begging to be taken over, brees is old, Ryan is getting up there too and bucs might be qb shopping soon. Gotta build this defense to slow down these high powered offenses. I’m more worried about the guaranteed money we’d give in a big contract

He's one of the best talents in the NFL and changes games. Peppers is the only guy on the line who can do that and he's 50.

Clowney would be the best FA pickup we've had in years and auto changes our defense for better. We love average bullshit here. We could get a old vet and still over pay him for 2 years and no upgrade or go better and get a pass rusher like him who can do it all. He is one of the best run stopping DEs as well.

Theres people on here who rather pay Dee Ford more or JPP.

Nah man. The problem with that scenario is that you and I are going to be pointing fingers at each other at the safety spots cause we're all the damn team will be able to afford!
