Don't expect a head coaching change. Further shuffling on the defensive staff, yes, but Rivera, from what I've heard, will be spared (barring a complete and utter embarrassment over the final 2 weeks).

I don't profess to have ever been an insider, but I am acquainted with someone who can be considered a pretty good source these days.

I can see a situation where Rivera is kept but Hurney is replaced and the new GM gets to decide on Rivera.

Frankly, if you tell a GM that he can't fire Ron Rivera, how are you any different from Jerry Richardson?

So basically, if a new GM is told that Rivera has to be retained, it needs to apply to this year only.

Dude - you are one of my favorite posters but this is silly.

Cam had those 17 game winning drives, but who's to say another QB would not have done the same.

What about the games where Cam failed at a game winning drive, but maybe a different QB would have done better.

The real way to play the Monday morning QB game is to say we should not have re-signed Cam to the extension.  He would have been here 2011-2015.  After the SB year, he walks.  We pick up that sweet comp pick and roll with DA.  After going 3-13 (instead of 6-10) we're in the mix for Watson, Trubisky, or Mahomes.  Back on top baby.

How many winning drives did Cam fall at, how were his winning drives done was it by his pure effort and ability? This what if game u are playing will not work. We have who we have many drives that stalled were not on Cam, some were. We  haven' had a true# 1 with Cam. I have yet heard anyone say how a wr made that play. Mahomes, Watson look at their line and Wr and TE group and they are playing with house money.

Not sure how you fire a former NFL Coach of the Year - who was 11-5 last year - b/c he has a QB who cant throw beyond 15 yards...heck, cant throw 5 yards accurately right now. I think it is amazing that we only lost the last 5 games by 7 or less. Be careful what you ask for, because you might get it.

You take credit away from Cam for 2017 and give it all to Ron even though it was Cam who carried the bulk of the run game? You must not have watched the games I did then. Without Cam picking up slack in the run game in 2017, we're looking at 3 consecutive losing seasons. And the only reason this one ended up being a losing season is because injuries have finally begun to take a toll on Cam after years of Rivera having no issue using him as a battering ram.

As much as I think an overhaul of this staff is necessary, I still have doubts Tepper ultimately cleans house this offseason. Especially now that the injury excuse is on the table. Panthers gonna Panther at the end of the day.

I don’t think Tepper will fall for the injury excuse. If Rivera stays it’ll be for different reasons. Cam’s shoulder was good enough for our first 4-5 losses of this streak and nobody else was hurt. I can’t believe a guy worth $10B can’t see that for himself. JR was an overly loyal buffoon who never cared about winning. Tep clearly isn’t that...

I think if you get rid of the GM you clean house with coach too.  No reason to fug  around.  Clean slate. GM will want his guy in there.

I don’t hate Rivera but think there are some good reasons to move on.   Let the new regime make decisions on Cam for the long term without rose colored glasses or past baggage in the way.

Personally think the Cam talk is over exaggerated and he is coping with some lingering issues from surgery but is not “done” as some have put it.  But would like for the new folks to make that decision.  Just my .02

I want it. I'm willing to go through hell for 8 years like the bears did to find there guy. I want a matt nagy, this is a coaching league. the best coaches win and win year in and year out, Rivera is not top 5 but more like top 15. It aint gunna be enough.

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
