Kalil and Short were not great business moves

Why not

Short was one of the the better DTs in the NFL

He had 1 bad fugging year this year and people freak.

Fug, people need to back away from the ledge a little.

Someone fill me in on why we are making this decision now...? Wouldn’t it be wiser to see what happens with Shaq, what else is out there in FA, what other teams are offering him and even what is there in the draft if he hadn’t signed elsewhere by then? Why make this definitive decision so soon?

It wasn't one bad year. He has five total sacks in two years since signing his big money contract. He averaged 8 sacks per game in the three seasons leading up to that contract including 11 sacks in his contract year.  He got paid and mailed it in.

Really a bummer we couldn't bring him back on a low end deal.  But I truly think Shaq will shine in a full-time role in position that fits him better (don't knock that until you've seen a full season).   I have very little faith in Mayo though, so we have to hope that Carter or Andre Smith turn out to be capable

This is stupid.  I dont agree with this decision at all...  TD still has plenty left in the tank.  I understand needing to know when to cut ties with aging vets is paramount to running a winning organization, but so is knowing when to hang on to aging vets who can still play.  TD can still play at a really high level, and outside of Luke, he is still our 2nd best LB.  There's even video from the Steelers blowout earlier this season where Tomlin is just unabashedly fanboying out about TD, including a play he made during the game demonstrating his athleticism and IQ...  and from my own eye test, I haven't seen any noticeable drop off in ability, so, I just don't get it.

And TBH, Shaq sucks, and TD in his late-thirties is better than Shaq is on his best day...  so again, I just don't understand this decision.  Really dumb.

Best of luck, TD...  a Panthers Legend, and keep pounding!

(I think he ends up with either the Saints, the Bucs, or the Bills.)

Really badly hope he doesn’t go to Falcons, Bucs or Aints. I’d be okay with Giants or Panthers north in Buffalo

If they'd take him the Falcons makes too much sense. Playing home and the family is close. I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up in Atlanta. New England or Pittsburgh

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
