Panthers exploring bid to bring NFL Draft to Charlotte

According to Erik Spanberg of the Charlotte Business Journal, the Panthers are exploring a bid to host the NFL Draft, with team executives scheduling a meeting with the league next week.

City leaders are on board with the plan, as Charlotte is on a hosting roll after last weekend’s NBA All-Star Game, with the Republican National Convention on the docket for 2020.

The team is expected to meet with NFL senior vice president of events Peter O’Reilly to talk about the bid.

About a month ago, WFNZ had the guy on that heads the Charlotte sports group (I forget his name) that puts this stuff together and it sure sounded like hosting the draft in 2021 or 2022 was all but a lock. He couldn't confirm because initial talks were taking place but you could read between the lines on what he was saying. Having the draft here would be a really cool event and one more great thing for the city.

The one in Philly was great.

(especially that speech by Drew Pearson) :)

I remember the interview you're talking about. I think it was Kyle Bailey who asked him about that and he hilariously clammed up.

Gotta admit that was a well done troll job on Philly by Pearson as was David Akers rebuttal the following year at the draft in Dallas.

The Eagles jumping Dallas to select Dallas Goedert in Dallas when they desperately needed a TE with Witten retiring gave Philly the last laugh.

    • I think that depends more on how high our pick is. If we have the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd pick i think we are drafting a QB rather than shopping FA market for a QB1. Curious if we’d be reluctant to start a rookie QB week 1 though.
    • Hurney 2.0 and Fitts were so bad I don't know if it was intentional or they were that abysmally clueless. Fittershits panicked repeatedly being on the back end of positional runs while Hurney couldn't evaluate anyone outside of the 1st.  I can't figure out why Plummer still has a jersey. There's no reason. Dalton brings nothing to the table. If another QB gets cut that has given a glimmer of anything better than what we have, we should look, and that goes for every position.  I cant get over how much different this team could have been with a competent GM and having accepted the Rams offer for Burns. This franchise could have gone in a totally different direction.
    • I thought tanking wasn't actually a thing and we were firmly against it though?
