Matt Kalil a panther in 2019?

Then cut him, and give away that the Panthers are targeting a tackle in the first round, whatever. I've always hated the Matt Kalil signing, said it was an awful contract, absurd, and wanted Andrew Whitworth at the time.

Like I said before, teams scout each other. They pretty well know each other's needs. They even hold their own mock drafts in preparation for the draft. Honestly, knowing what a team might do in the draft really only matters in terms of pulling the trigger on a trade to jump in front of someone.

If any of the other 31 teams don't know we want a LT badly they are not working too hard or don't care.

I agree about Whitworth but JR was throwing his weight around and we ended up with his darling's brother, Gettleman did the dirty deed and Rivera is still finding excuses for keeping this mistake around. Now the fans are finding another reason to accept mediocrity because if we take it one more year, it will be better next year and yet it just stays the same in new ways. Keeping Kalil is a classic example of Ron finding ways to keep know people because of the fear of the unknown. Acting like it was only up to Hurney in the presser was pretty funny considering how well and much they like working together. Dude wouldn't know accountability if it hit him between the eyes.

If he was asked, what is he supposed to say? MH will make the call. Where RR screws up is when he acts like the decision is his---just shut up.  I would say, as of today, he is on the roster and competing for the LT job.

If RR and MH  decided to start Matt--then they deserve to lose their jobs.

I would just say that pretending that he didn't have input or have a better response is typical and lame.

He has input (I am not sure I understand your response) but talking to the press about this in February does nothing productive.  You do not have to say anything.

Huddlers need to stop with this. JR didn't orchestrate the signing.

Yeah, he's been using the health excuse for years to excuse himself for his sucking. Maybe it's true. Maybe he is seriously hampered by health issues. But at this point it is what it is. He either just plain sucks or his body isn't physically cut out for NFL football and that causes him to just plain suck. Either way, the point is that he sucks.

Where is the proof that he forced the Kalil signing?

Where is the proof he didn't have a hand in it?

He was a meddling owner that fired the GM for not doing what he wanted 4 months later. It's not very hard and I really wish someone would speak because that offseason was crazy.

I don't really want to get in the argument of the definition of "cost" so maybe I can put this a different way.

If you cut him this year, the team is going to have to account for $14.7m in cap cost in the future.  Whether you spread it out with a June 1st designation is irrelevant to the point I'm making.

If you keep him this year and release him next year the team will have to account for roughly $21.9m in cap cost.

Is his one year of service this year worth $7.2m?  Honestly that same type of question should be asked about every player on your roster.

Can you replace his production for $7.2m.  If the answer is no you keep him.  If the answer is yes you let him go.

    • Panthers sign OT Rasheed Walker Terms: One year, up to $10 million Grade: A The price of this deal might be the most shocking of free agency thus far. Walker was widely considered the best free agent tackle this year and was expected to receive a large contract. But his market developed very slowly, so he has signed a one-year deal with a maximum value of $10 million -- meaning the base value is below that -- per NFL Network. For context, my free agency contract model projected a deal averaging $21.8 million for Walker. Instead, it's a short-term commitment for less than half that. And the Panthers are the beneficiaries. Carolina entered this offseason with a possible need at left tackle after Ikem Ekwonu suffered a patellar tendon rupture in the playoffs that put his 2026 season in question. It's also the last year of his contract. The Panthers signed Stone Forsythe as an insurance plan already in free agency, but once Walker's market fell it seemed like they felt adding him was well worth it, too. Our win rate metrics consider Walker to be a solid player. Last season in Green Bay, he was in the 85th percentile among tackles in pass block win rate, though only 22nd percentile in run block win rate. He was in the 69th percentile and 48th percentile in those two metrics in 2024, respectively. Given that Dan Moore Jr. received $20.5 million per year from the Titans last year most -- myself included -- thought Walker would walk away with more than that. Perhaps the struggles of Moore (who wasn't great last season) contributed to Walker's market being cooler than expected, a theory that ESPN's Jeremy Fowler suggested. Walker was also arrested two months ago at LaGuardia Airport in New York for allegedly trying to check-in with a firearm that he had a license for in Wisconsin but not New York. Either way, teams felt differently about Walker than most on the outside thought. But he's a heck of an add for the Panthers at this price. While his run-game contributions might be far from perfect, a weak pass protector at tackle can sink a passing game. Even if this is only a one-year arrangement, Walker should be able to help keep Bryce Young upright
    • Fantastic signing. If he is good, this will make next offseason really interesting. I would imagine that Morgan would try to extend Walker and convince Ikey to move to the right side to replace Moton. This also opens up options at 19 at lot instead of forcing a tackle. I'm not a fan, but I'm definitely more open to Morgen drafting Sadiq now, but there is also Peter Woods, and even some like Dillon Thieneman is now in the mix. Hell, I'm still for another off ball LB.
    • sure, but Panthers are theoretically in their win now window. Their first rounder needs to be a day one starter
