No one sees this point at all on this site. I just don't understand how putting Williams at RT is far more a risk than keeping that right side elite with Moton and just drafting a LT instead instead of creating a situation of unknowns with hoping Williams is healthy coming back on the RT spot and Moton can play LT. Two potential areas of risk vs one.

Any guy who gets second team All-Pro has to be elite after all. Just like anyone who's been a pro-bowler *cough* Matt Kalil *cough* has to have been elite too.

Oh wait.

Hope it's a depth signing

Now, IF we draft a tackle AND cut Kalil, then I'm content.

Maybe I'm more scared that Kalil will be our LT instead of Moton overall if the coaches can't evaluate whatsoever.

I'd like to believe that Kalil will be released now and Moton will go to the left.

What I don't want to see is Kalil at left, Moton on the right and Williams as a backup.

It's not like we gave the dude 5 years and 80 million. I just can't get upset about a prove it deal. The pros far outweigh the cons

Again, I'm just thinking there's more risk involved with keeping Williams.

Ideally we let him loose, draft a LT, cut Matt Kalil. Keep Moton on the right side and elite, while we let a rookie show how much better they are than Matt Kalil (not that hard) and do fine on that spot.

I just don't know if a Williams coming back from injury is good, and whether Moton can man the LT spot.

Every season is a crapshoot like this though. If it works out then maybe we can make a playoff run. Yes, odds are against us because we dont have the best roster. We have to shoot the moon and wish for the best. Worst case scenario is we dont win the superbowl. Wont be the first or last time.

I just think that bringing back Daryl Williams is counter-productive when you already have a solid - borderline elite - guy in Taylor Moton on a rookie deal manning the right side and keeping it elite.

Because I don't know if he can easily switch to LT and make that elite, while Daryl Williams comes back healthy and actually plays like an All-Pro.

Maybe I'm seeing this wrong?

That’s because Ron needs to slide Motons ass to LT and let him swim. He played great in his stint there. He’ll be miles better than Kalil.

It'll be interesting to revisit this in a year.

Hopefully Daryl turns out well. I'm skeptical he's as good as perception says he is, but we'll see.

Prove it deal? He better prove it. I think it's a bad move, but since I'm in the minority despite watching his film, I'll keep quiet.

I agree.  He gave up two key blocks against Cam Jordan in the final drive of the Wild Card game.

It caused the intentional grounding and the game ending sack.  Hopefully we’re wrong though.

Couldn't a rookie LT do better than Matt Kalil anyhow?

Moton mans the right side and keeps it elite. Idk if Williams coming back from injury will be good, nor do I know a guy who's played RT his whole career basically can up and out play LT immediately right out the gates.

So now you want an unproven rookie who COULD also get injured. C'mon, I have always appreciated your opinions and posts on here.  Like if it was 4 years for 45 million, then I could understand the apprehension.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
