We better sign Ryan Khalil ASAP. Khalil is still on the free agent market, and is still a very good center.

Just looked him up. 16th on pff. Solid.

I can't help but lmao at that quote. How in the bloody hell does that person not realize that Ryan retired especially since it was from us, a division rival, and the whole reason why we signed a C. Hell even a basic name search would clearly show that lol

Downhill isn't NFC Championship and should have been NFC Championship the last two years. That said, in the second half they sure weren't firing on all cylinders. This doesn't help and having a 2nd rounder and nothing else before the 5th doesn't either, but I'm sure not crying for them.

How awesome is it that we will have made our first 6 draft picks before they make their 2nd pick? We need to nail this draft and we'll be in good shape.

As awesome as that sounds, I’m pretty sure Payton will trade down from his second rounder and pick up extra picks to fill their many needs.

Definitely a big deal. I think this handcuffs the rest of their free agency.  Can't afford to allot any money elsewhere until they are sure they have an answer at a position as important as center. Probably forced to use their second round pick on a center unless they grab someone in free agency before then. As others have said, we're fortunate he announced it after we signed Paradis because at minimum, I think the Saints would've driven up the price to sign him.

Just for shits and giggles, the ESPN article:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/26293473/saints-sign-ol-easton-replace-unger

And from a Vikings site this blurb about a guy who missed more time than Paradis with a back issue (not good for OL) and was apparently never good and doesn’t seem to play C much. $6m a year on someone rated way below a Matt Kalil is a forced reach due to zinger retiring. As they say in the McD’s ads, I’m lovin’ it.

At left guard, Nick Easton had most of the reps, and sadly didn’t improve over his previous season, where he filled in for several games. Easton missed three games mid-way through the season, and again at the end of the regular season with a fractured ankle that ended his season. Overall he received a poor (41.5) grade from PFF, which was down from the 45.5 grade he received in 2016.

Back issues are major for anyone on either side of the trenches.

That's what derailed Charles Haley.

Paradis was the only center worth a Damn. The Saints are screwed with the DTs in our division.

Unger allowed the most pressures he’s allowed since his rookie year last year. He said himself that he felt like his play fell off a cliff and he didn’t think he’d make it through the next season healthy. Acting as if Unger was still one of the best C in football is just crazy. He’s been fighting injuries. This replacement isn’t the end of the world. He’s sandwiched between 2 solid guards.

He’s bad and y’all gave him a three year deal. Dude missed the entire 2018 for neck surgery. That is serious. And he was a better guard then center. I’m really not sure what your front office was thinking.

Yeah, we’ll see how it works out. Seeing as how they didn’t target anyone else and knew about it before FA, I guess they like him. I’m not huge on the signing. I do like the depth it offers, which will be better than last year.

Mack is going to have a hard time this year. The two FA guards that Atlanta signed are mediocre at best. I hope we spend at least 2 of the 2nd, 3rd, 3rd comp, 4th and 5th on a LG and a developmental tackle (like Thomas, solid potential even if he's not starting year 1). The other 3 can be another DL, FS and nickel (or DL triple).

I know everyone wants a back up QB, but I don't see any of the guys in this draft being better than Allen. Not the Allen in college, but seemingly the guy who looked solid against NO and was the top ranked HS QB. This is a bad QB class and I feel like we are just drafting a QB who's not going to be a franchise QB. We aren't going to get Tom Brady lucky.

Both Carpenter and Brown are upgrades from what Atlanta had at G in the last couple years. Also nice to get two Guards that are 320+ when they’ve had guys at the 295-300 range since Quinn arrived.

I like the film I’ve seen from Carpenter and I think will look better in between Matthews and Mack.

    • So answer the question. Why did Chark and Hurst have the same metrics (go look them up, I did... and one was actually worse in LA) with Justin Herbert? Why did Mingo have the same metrics with Dak? You're right, there is a common denominator, just not the one you're trying to make.  Why could DJ Moore get open with Bridgewater, Allen, Cam 2.0, Darnold, Baker, Williams, Bagent? I'll answer the question for you - because he is a good WR unlike Chark/Hurst/Mingo.
    • I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem?  Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes.
    • Correct.  It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays.   magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all.  BY makes playing defense way too easy.   NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route  so you can dial up a great play.  But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way.  Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play.
