Panthers Currently At 6.73M Cap Space

Not worried about the cap, especially when moves can be made NOW to free up space for this season either through cuts or extensions like Shaq.

In 2020, little over 47 million in space as of now. Not including, a potential cut of KK, Poe, Olsen (retire), Trai.  Could easily get up to 75 million or so in space. If a true rebuild is in need after this season, it won't be that hard to hit the reset button, while still having Cam, Luke, Moore, Samuel, Jackson, etc.

Another good draft and continued production from the young guys to go with that cap space?  Quick rebuild.

Shaq, Smith, and Searcy combine to represent $16M worth of salary cap that could be freed up at any time.

I would have done it a long time ago then. Moves like this is where Hurney just falls short after doing some positive things. He just can finish strong in FA or the draft.

  • I looked at the current roster and depending on how you rate players there are around 35 players that are worthy of being on the 53 roster. Add 9(7drafted 2 undrafted) that brings the total to 44.
  •  herniay needs to sign basically 10 players to deals with that 6.73 million and have enough in case injuries hit during the season.
  • Be prepared for below average depth and pray to the football gods for no injuries.

I would be fine with that. Use the draft to focus on Dline and grab another OT in round 2.

Yep, would give us maximum flexibility in the draft, could even consider a trade up. Hoping for a edge, og or T, and cb in the first 3 rounds if we get a fs. If not I could see us grabbing a fs in the 2nd.

Gives us the best chance to fill much need holes on the team imo

The point of the statement you quoted was to say it doesn't matter because it can be reclaimed when needed.

Why us this so difficult for some to understand?  It just additions and subtraction.

Also, really we have around $10m. Kalil’s savings covers the rookie pool plus $500k. Add in the fact that some vets on our roster will be gone because of the rookies and we’re right around $10m with a bunch of available money.

Are you just making up numbers now?  You have no idea what this team will do.  Stop.

Significant would not be the word I would use.  Knee-jerk, Laughable, Tragic might fit better

saintsb_logo.gif Saints sign C Nick Easton (4 years, $24 million): D- Grade
It's important not to overreact to retirements of important players, yet that seems to be exactly what the Saints have done in the wake of this signing.

This seems to be a major overpay. I ranked Nick Easton as a one-star free agent because I thought there was a chance his career could be over in the wake of his neck surgery, which caused him to miss all of 2018. The year before, Easton was just a below-average starter. It's nice that he continue his career. However, considering Easton's health status, the Saints should've been able to get the former Viking at a major discount. Instead, they aren't even just paying full price for him; they're giving him way more money than he deserves.

The Saints have a great front office, but this seems to be a rare blunder. There's a chance this signing pans out, and Easton does well for the Saints, but this signing is far too expensive for my liking.

Comment on the other free agent signings below.

I think he meant significant money, which is absolutely the case and your post supports it. Dumb deal for the Aints.

The more I look at safeties available in free agency, the more I think we are going to hope to hit one in the draft or throw Searcy at FS. Boston is really the only average or better coverage safety left in FA.

Maybe we can look at nickel corner in free agency (wouldn't mind Dennard) or a rotation DT/DE and focus on DE in 1st round, G/T in 2nd round, FS in 3rd round, and DT/nickel CB with our comp pick.

How about a G in round 2 or a FS? Unless Risner (who can be a great G as well) is there at 46, I don't want to see a Little or a Howard at 46 over say a McCoy, Jenkins or Lindstrom who would start immediately at LG.

Depends on if we are done in FA. We could easily sign another veteran FS for a decent amount. I think we go Dline in the 1st 2 rounds. Our pass rush needs to be addressed. We can have the best DB's in the NFL if the QB isn't getting pressured eventually WR's will get open.

Searcy starting for us would be worst case scenario IMO
